Thats where you are mistaken … about a great many things. Imagine how morally bankrupt your ideology has to be to hold up as your ultimate model of pacifism the guy who will kill more people than anyone in human history?

I feel embarrassed for you!

You don’t have me blocked and I don’t feel embarrassed for you.

Jesus, the apostles, and the early church. That’s all it takes to stand firmly against you. Spurgeon, one of your favorite Christian writers, is helpful. Everyone should read more of all of them.

A word to my readers. Don’t be embarrassed about what your enemies say about you. Recognize them for what they are -> fiery darts from the evil one. Believe and obey the teaching of Jesus and the apostles and the life of the coming age will be yours.

It’s history and it’s verifiable. Jesus and the apostles didn’t kill their enemies. Neither did they teach the followers of Jesus to kill theirs.

The troll admits he would protect his family and that governments should protect its people but objects to the Iberian kingdoms having done so.

Thank God my ancestors were brave enough and courageous enough to defend against evil

That’s not the government’s armor that the obedient follower of Jesus is wearing and it’s not the armor that the Crusaders were wearing.

“Martyrs often die with smiles on their faces in the knowledge that their witness is a foretaste of the kingdom coming.”

(Dale W. Brown, Biblical Pacifism, p. 101)

The Crusaders weren’t martyrs, didn’t die with smiles on their faces, and weren’t killing Muslims, Jews, and Christians for the kingdom that is coming. They were unlike the earliest followers of Jesus, who were waiting for the kingdom to come and didn’t kill their enemies.

“The natural counterpart of the Christian disapproval of war was the conception of peace as being of the very stuff and substance of the Christian life.”

(C. John Cadoux, The Early Christian Attitude To War, p. 58)

That attitude is not on display in the Crusades.

The pastor is right: Christianity is the religion of peace.

The Crusades present an argument against the pastor and the religion of peace.

Defend the truth, not the Crusades.

Will you listen to the Pope? Will @Wrangler?

“‘Jesus is the King of Peace, who rejects war, whom no one can use to justify war,’ said the Pope. ‘He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war, but rejects them.’”

Given what the Pope said in post #416, would he accept the modest proposal?

None of what you posted is true. A good man should be respected, not because he is nice, but because he is peaceful. Being peaceful is a choice to restrain his capacity to kill you. This is far different from harmless, which lacks violent capacity AND the necessity to be respected.

This is why Jesus told us to fear the LORD, who has the capacity to destroy our body and soul. Violent conquest is the story of the Bible.
  1. From Adam and Eve getting kicked out of Eden
  2. to killing animals to atone for sin
  3. to Jesus death on the cross
  4. to Judgment Day, the damned put in The Lake of Fire.
Did you miss all that?

Claiming otherwise is to undermine the God we serve, who is a warrior. And we are made in THAT image. I don’t seek violence but don’t shy away from it either. The best way to secure peace is to prepare for war. George Washington. We all know there are metaphors for war and asymmetric warfare but the foundation of it all is literal, violent war. General Patton told his men not to die for their country but make the poor bastard who is the enemy die for their country. Amen and Amen.

“A professor who was discussing issues of violence in the Bible put it this way for me: ‘The Old Testament is the schoolmaster that leads us to Christ and His way.’”

(Dale W. Brown, Biblical Pacifism, p. 95)
