What Is The True Meaning Of Daniel 2:44

Daniel 2 KJV

Love, Walter And Debbie

1-18-24 Conclusion, To be continued from: "Jesus Christ," (Hebrew, Yeshua Ha Maschiach), Which Means "Saviour, The Anointed One," Of God, Or "The Saviour Messiah."

A "Peek" into Eternity
In Isaiah 9:6 we read of the promised Messiah, "For unto us a child is born, unto
us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder: And his name shall be
called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of
peace."
This passage shows the Messiah was to be born of a woman, and be a child who
would grow up to become the Messiah. This is a Messianic passage predicting the Christ
or Anointed One of God would be born of a human woman. Isaiah 7;14 shows this
woman would be a virgin daughter of Israel: "Therefore the LORD himself shall give
you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name
Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14).
Then, in Isaiah 9:7, we read, "Of the increase of his government and peace there
shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to
establish it with judgment and with justice, from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of
the LORD of hosts will perform this."
The word "increase" in Hebrew is #4768 in Strong's Concordance and is

marbiyth, meaning "a multitude, offspring, greatness, increase." Gesenius Hebrew-
Chaldee Lexicon to the Old Testament defines the word as "multitude, magnitude (II

Chron.9:6; 30:18), very great part (I Chron.12:29), progeny, increase of a family (I
Sam.2:33), interest, as if the increase of the principal (Lev.25:37)."
Notice that this is referring to the production of offspring -- Messiah would have
unlimited, or limitless multitude of offspring -- that is, sons whom He brings to salvation.
Of the growth and increase of His "progeny" there would be "NO END" -- that is, no
limit, no stopping -- in other words, the increase of His Family will CONTINUE TO
INCREASE AND EXPAND FOREVER, WITHOUT ENDING!
THIS IS TALKING ABOUT THE FAMILY OF GOD!
The word "government" here is misrah and means "empire." It is from the root
word sarah meaning "to prevail, have power, as a prince."
The word for "peace" is shalom and means much more than just "peace," as we
think of it in English. It is a comprehensive Hebrew word meaning: "peace,
completeness, welfare, health" (Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary, "peace," p.173).

21
Says Vine's:
"Shalom is a very important term in the Old Testament and has maintained its
place in Mishnaic, rabbinic, and modern Hebrew. In Israel today, people greet the
newcomer and each other with the words ma shlomka, ('what is your peace?', 'how
are you doing?') and they ask about the 'peace' ('well-being') of one's family.
"The use of shalom is frequent (237 times) and varied in its semantic range. The
first two occurrences in Genesis already indicate the changes in meaning: 'And
thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace' [shalom in the sense of 'in tranquility,' 'at ease,'
'unconcerned']; thou shalt be buried in a good old age' (Gen.15:15); and 'that thou
wilt do us no hurt, as we have not touched thee, and as we have done unto thee nothing
but good, and have sent thee away in peace [shalom with the meaning of 'unharmed'
and 'unhurt'] . . .' (Gen.26:29). Yet, both usages are essentially the same, as they express
the root meaning of 'to be whole.'"
Therefore, when we put this all together, we have a picture of an idyllic kingdom

or empire which will prevail everywhere, and will bring true wholeness, peace, well-
being, tranquility, and prosperity everywhere. And it will continue multiplying and

increasing in government and peace FOR EVER -- without any ending!
This pictures a constantly increasing and expanding kingdom throughout eternity,
with MORE AND MORE GOD-BEINGS -- members of the family of God -- being
REPRODUCED for ever and for ever . . . always increasing, multiplying, more progeny,
more increase and more multitudes added to the family -- the Family of God! Thousands
of generations!
Isn't it amazing?
God's Plan will go ON FOREVER!
The Hebrew word for "end" in Isaiah 9:7 is 7093 in Strong's, or qets (pronounced
kates) and means "(utmost) border, end, (in-)finite." Gesenius adds, "end, extremity,
whether of space (Isa.37:24; Jer.50:26), or of time." The term "no end" therefore
means God's Kingdom will continue expanding without any limit or extremity, forever,
with no end in either time or space -- the Universe will keep expanding to infinity, and
will God's Kingdom will endure to eternity -- an infinity of time and space. It will
always grow!
And think of it -- we have the opportunity to get in on the action -- on the ground
floor -- as the "firstfruits" of God and of Christ, at His coming!
An allusion to this is found in Genesis, where God declares, "While the earth
remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and
night shall not cease" (Gen.8:22). The "harvest" of new sons for the Kingdom of God
will never "cease."
In Deuteronomy, we read: "Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God,
the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep

22
his commandments to a THOUSAND GENERATIONS . . ." (Deut.7:9).
How long is a "thousand generations"? Since Adam and Eve were created about
6000 years ago, and since there are 40 years to a generation (Num.14:34), since Adam
and Eve there have been only 150 generations of mankind. If one generation is 40 years,
then one thousand generations is 40,000 years!
And that is just a "drop in the bucket" compared to the concept of ETERNITY!
God is Reproducing His Family -- Himself
Indeed, God IS reproducing Himself -- through His Son, Jesus Christ the
Messiah! God the Father and the Logos made mankind "in their image," after their own
"likeness" -- in effect, after their own "KIND" of being! That is their ultimate intention.
But, for now, we are created out of the dust of the ground, physical, flesh and blood
human beings, capable of death.
We are now being "tested," to see if we love God with all our hearts and mind,
and whether we are willing to OBEY His commandments and never go astray!
God is going to continue the process of reproducing Himself, as the Fountain of
Life, as the Source, expanding His Kingdom and multiplying His children, grand
children, and great-great grandchildren, for all eternity.
Interestingly, the word for increase in Isaiah 9:7, marbiyth, begins with the
Hebrew letter "mem." But this is the only word in the Hebrew Old Testament text that
begins with a "mem" which violates the laws of Hebrew grammar -- that is, in this case
the first letter of the word, the "mem," is a CLOSED MEM! In all other words where a
"mem" is at the beginning or
middle of a word, it is always an "open mem." According to rabbinical exegesis, the
"mem" symbolizes the "womb" of a woman. Why then did God inspire this particular
word to have a CLOSED MEM in its construction?
This strange anomaly of Scripture tells us first of all, that the Messiah would be
born of a VIRGIN -- A WOMAN WITH A "CLOSED WOMB"! The "increase" of
God's Kingdom, then, would be accomplished MIRACULOUSLY -- supernaturally -- by
God's divine POWER, the Holy Spirit (see Luke 1:30-35).
This unusual fact also tells us that ALL the "increase" in the Family and Kingdom
of God would come through Christ, the Messiah! The increase of God's Kingdom is
accomplished miraculously, by divine power -- acting upon the "closed mem." All the
increase must come through Jesus Christ, the Messiah born of the human virgin. He is
the "first begotten" and He is the "only begotten" of God in that special way (John 1:14;
Col.1:15). Therefore, the "mem" is closed.
However, through Him the family of God will continue to "increase" --

Walter, I am posting my response to you a second time beause it no longer being displayed... also, all of my posts have been removed since I posted my response to you. So, here it is again... thanks.

Verse 44 shifts focus from the symbolism of the fourth kingdom to the prophecy of God's eternal kingdom. It consists of four significant phrases:

44a: In the days of these kings.
44b: The God of Heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed.
44c: And the kingdom shall not be left to other people.
44d: It shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever

44a: In the days of these kings

This phrase does more than set a vague backdrop; it defines the prophetic boundary of God’s timeline. The “kings” encompass the rulers of the entire image—Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome. In other words, God’s redemptive plan, including the establishment of His kingdom, unfolds entirely within the framework of these four world powers.

This is the blueprint Daniel unfolds throughout his book. Every vision—chapter 7’s four beasts, chapter 8’s ram and goat, the seventy weeks of chapter 9, and the long narrative of chapter 11—operates within this same boundary. There is no fifth earthly empire beyond Rome. Instead, God intervenes directly during the reign of the fourth kingdom.

That intervention is Christ Himself. Jesus was born, lived, died, and rose again under pagan Rome. The Stone “cut without hands” struck the image while it still stood, not after it crumbled. Christ announced the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy when He declared: “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand” (Mark 1:15).

Thus Daniel 2:44a sets the prophetic limit on the rise of God’s kingdom. It did not wait for Rome’s fall, nor for some later empire. It came exactly when Daniel said it would—in the days of these kings. From that moment onward, every other biblical prophecy must be read within this divinely fixed timeline.

44b: The God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed

This is the great contrast at the heart of Nebuchadnezzar’s vision. Every previous kingdom was raised by human hands—marked by conquest, decline, and eventual collapse. But this kingdom is established by God Himself. It is not political, born of rebellion or ambition; it is spiritual, inaugurated in the coming of Christ, who declared: “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matt. 4:17).

Unlike the fragile clay or the brute iron, this kingdom is unshakable. It cannot decay, it cannot be corrupted, and it cannot be passed on through dynastic succession. It does not rise and fall with the tides of history. The Messiah’s kingdom—God’s kingdom—is indestructible, because it is rooted not in earthly power, but in divine authority and eternal truth.

44c: And the kingdom shall not be left to other people

This phrase makes an eternal declaration: God’s kingdom, once established by the Messiah, will never be transferred to another nation, group, or institution. Unlike earthly empires, it is not an inheritance that passes from one ruler to another. It remains under divine authority alone.

God first entrusted His covenant to Israel, calling them to be a light to the nations. Though they often fell short, He did not abandon His plan. In Christ, He fulfilled it—establishing a kingdom that could never be seized or redefined. And after the cross, this kingdom was not left to men but entrusted to the Holy Spirit.

“The kingdom shall not be left to other people” means precisely this: it is the Spirit who carries forward Christ’s reign. Churches and institutions may claim succession, teaching that salvation flows through their hierarchy or sacraments, but such claims contradict Daniel’s prophecy. The kingdom was never handed to men—not even to the apostles as rulers—but given to the Spirit, who guides the Church in truth. Jesus said: “When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). Yes, the apostles founded churches. Yes, they preached and taught. But they did not rule. They did not inherit the kingdom.

The Spirit does not distort doctrine, chase cultural trends, or replace Christ’s testimony. He is the faithful custodian of a kingdom that is spiritual, living, and composed of all who hear the Shepherd’s voice. Human institutions rise and fall; denominations fracture and corrupt; but God’s kingdom remains untouched, because it has not been—and never will be—left to other people. It belongs to Christ, administered by the Spirit, and it will endure in righteousness until the King returns in glory.

44d: It shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever

This is the climactic act in God’s redemptive plan. Daniel 2:44d points us back to verse 35, where the image of human kingdoms was shattered and swept away like chaff, leaving no trace behind. Here history reaches its conclusion: the end of all earthly power, and the beginning of Christ’s everlasting reign.

Earlier, in verse 34, we saw the stone “cut without hands” strike the feet—symbolizing Christ’s first coming. That strike fractured the fourth kingdom, breaking apart the iron and clay—Rome’s military power and the people within it. God’s kingdom began not through conquest, but through the Gospel and the calling out of a holy people. Yet the statue still stood.

Now, in verse 44d, the work is finished. This is not gradual reform or cultural influence—it is decisive judgment. Every trace of the statue is consumed:

Babylon, the golden head of pride and false worship.
Medo-Persia, the silver chest of decree and human law.
Greece, the bronze belly of philosophy and human wisdom.
Rome, the iron legs of conquest and imperial rule, both pagan and papal.

Even the clay—those within and outside the church who conformed to worldly power and rejected the Spirit of Christ. All are consumed. All are gone. Only one kingdom remains—unshakable and eternal. One Rock. One King.

Greetings CTK,
The “kings” encompass the rulers of the entire image
I consider these kings depicted by the ten toes as the subdivision of the Roman Empire after its demise. Additional detail is also given in Daniel 7 represented by the ten horns and then by the rise and demise of the Catholic power.

Kind regards
Trevor

Thank you for your response. Let me ask you to consider an alternative interpretation that carries forward throughout Daniel and is a complete departure from any of today's accepted interpretations of these 10 toes or 10 horns (and I am sure you might agree that most take the position they represent 10 kingdoms / nations / powers that are secular in nature and have yet to make themselves known - which of course is not a strong position at any level.

First, within Daniel and certainly even moreso in Revelation, God will give us different symbols for the same actor, kingdom or event with the purpose of not only securing / confirming their identity, but also to impart much information about them - their timing, characteristics, etc. One can easily see this with the 4 kingdoms where He uses metal and the parts of a man to specifically identify each of the 4 kingdoms. Then in chapter 7 He will use wild animals to identify these same 4 kingdoms - He is revealing more characteristics for each of them.

God is doing the exact same thing with the 10 toes. First, one must understand or accept there are 4 kingdoms that come out of the sea - 4 and only 4- this is His decision and we cannot add to or subtract any other kingdom within His prophecy / plan of restoration in Daniel. Everyone - everyone contends their is either a fith kingdom because they have decided to carve out the "clay" found within the feet or they believe the 4th kingdom is a kingdom of iron AND clay. But neither is true. You will find throughout Daniel there are 4 and only 4 kingdoms being revealed but the 4th kingdom of iron - which represents the mighty power of Rome is the only kingdom that has a non-metallic component WITHIN IT. It is NOT part of the kingdom just as Rome would never partner with any other nation or peoples during it;s reign. They conquered and subjugated everyone - no sharing in Rome!

And remember, Daniel is all about God restoring His people and His city after they have completed their 70 year punishment in Babylon. This book is NOT about the 4 kingdoms or Nebuchadnezzar or Alexander or even as some insert the Ptolemies or Seluecids or the Caesar's. This is all about the restoration of His city and His people as they travel back from Babylon to Jerusalem and where we find at the end of that journey the arrival of their Messiah. That is the purpose of Daniel - to restore His people and His city so when He arrives on the first day of the 70th week of the prophecy everything that was either destroyed or taken away by Babylon is fully restored. The Messiah is the last piece of furniture (Ark of the Covenant) to be restored).

Therefore, the 4th kingdom is Rome which began around 60 - 80 BC and would continue to 476 AD. But the 70 weeks of years prophecy, which is the most important prophecy in the Scripture begins in 457 BC and ends around 33/34 AD - just 3.5 years after the cross. This of course, is one of God's ways that supports / proves the 4th kingdom is indeed Rome and everything comes together in Daniel at the beginning of the 70th week.

So, what might this tell as about the symbol of clay found in the "METAL MAN IMAGE" of chapter 2? Just happens to be a two part kingdom of clay and iron? No. The clay represents the Jewish nation - His people that are symbolically found to be held captive with the iron feet of the 4th kingdom of Rome. Futher, we also find the mention of the 10 toes which are also constructed of both clay and iron - meaning, they do are found WITHIN the 4th kingdom of Rome - also contained and restricted within the feet.

Now we have to discuss one of the most misinterpreted verses in Daniel - 2:34. EVERYONE contends that 2:34 and 2:35 represent the exact same event - both end time events where Jesus will return to strike and destroy the 4 kingdoms. But that is a mistake. Verse 2:34 represents His first coming where He, the Stone strikes the feet (only) and separates (not destroy) the CLAY FROM THE IRON. Meaning, Jesus will minister for 3.5 years of the last 7 years and go to the cross. This symbolically causes the "separation of the clay, not only from being held captivee within the Roman empire but also a clear and purposeful separation of His people. Later in verses 2:41-45 one can see the language where Daniel mentions the "pottery clay" from the "ceramic clay." This reveals that the cross SEPARATED those of His people that would accept Him as their Messiah (pottery clay) and go out into the world to preach the Good News verses those of His people that would reject Him as their Messiah (ceramic clay).

Not only did Jesus symbolically separate those of His people that would accept Him as their Messiah but the Stone symbolically striking the feet would also release or free up the 10 toes. This is the most important prophecy in chapter 2 - all focused on the mission of the Messiah.

If we jump quickly to chapter 7 we will find that God no longer uses the clay or the 10 toes as symbols. Now, Daniel reveals that the 4th kingdom is showing the 10 horns will come out of the 4th beast (same 10 toes). Meaning, they (10 toes) which were once held captive with the iron feet are now shown to be COMING OUT of the beast. Now, they are depicted as 10 horns or powers! In chapter 2 they sat captive and silent with the iron feet but in chapter 7, after the Stone separated them and freed them, they are now depicted by God as having power. Thus, we see the first symbolic transistion of the 10 toes..... all as a result of the Stone striking the feet.

But before we continue the discussion of the 10 horns, it is necessary to mention that there will be a "little horn" that will also arrive in chapter 7 BUT ONLY AFTER THE COMING OUT OF THE 10 HORNS (not immediately but after). Also, it is necessary to mention 7:11 which tells us the beast (4th kingdom of Rome - specifically, pagan Rome because that is the 4th kingdom when the Messiah arrived), would be slain. This represents the demise of pagan Rome in 476 AD. This is important because both the 10 horns and the little horn HAD TO COME OUT OF THE 4TH BEAST BEFORE ITS DEMISE IN 476 AD.

So, the clay in chapter 2 is separated from the iron and then further separated between those who would accept the Messiah (pottery clay) versus thos who would reject Him (ceramic clay), and they would go out into the world preaching the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus. So, who or what are these 10 toes, which after being freed up from the clunches of Rome and would be identified as "10 horns or powers" COMING OUT OF THE BEAST BEFORE ITS DEMISE? They represent the 10 commandments of God. Once they were held captive within the symbolic iron feet of pagan Rome -just as the clay but are now allowed to be preached to the Gentiles by the "pottery clay." This is why they are identified as powers because they have the tremendous ability to transform lives - all those who would place their faith in the Messiah and the Word of God.

Later in chapter 7, God would once again change the symbols of the 10 horns.... they would be identified as 10 kings. Why? Because the "little horn" would come to power after the demise of pagan Rome and appropriate His commandments and control all christians with His commandments. The little horn (papacy) would come to full power after 476 AD and use them as a weapon - he would enforce God's commandments as if they were "kings" that must be obeyed, or else (but they would be interpreted and enforced and applied in a manner that was unlike what God had ever intended.) I will stop here.

Is it not strange that people are still not able to let go the false understanding of past descendant generations.

Historically, the Roman Empire was never able to exercise its dominion over the empty devastated and desolated land of Babylon and as such the Roman Empire are not the legs of the statue prophecy recorded in Daniel 2.

The fourth segment of the statue prophecy only came into view in 1926 AD as prophesied in Revelation 16:19 when France and Brittian redistributed their gains from WW1 of the Middle East.

Looking into our future, God will shortly establish His Everlasting Kingdom during the time of the kings that constitutes the feet of the statue.

That is fine, if you want to discuss any of the interpretations that would also be fine.
