Was Jesus telling us to engage in a completely new unique approach towards God called, "faith'? Or is the faith he asks from us, simple faith we rely on everyday, but used in a different way?

That kind of blind wall jumping faith is great for children.
You do as you're told and you're justified.
But the faith he really desires is the kind where you jump but because you're told to, but because you know its right to do.
That is the faith he wants. One that places faith into his words are good not only because he said them, but we know for ourselves they profit ourselves.

Faith is suspending our disbelief. We can only exercise faith effectively if we trust. Not every situation or person or is worthy of trust. God is worthy. All faith is the same faith we are called to exercise it with God. Blind obedience is not faith because there is no hope involved and therefore no risk.
You can adhere to blind obedience without hope - I do it at work everyday...hahalforrest said:

Faith is faith. Jesus didn't ask us to do something that we had never done before when He asked us to exercise faith. If He did, He would have had to teach us how to do it or magically endow us with a new skill.

You are right that we will never be perfect on Earth, but we will be perfect in Heaven. We are learning how to be citizens of Heaven right now, even in our imperfection.ATP said:
