1 John 4:10
In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Yes, God is love and sent His Son to make atonement for sin. John shows us the way that we know if we love God as He loves us is through His Spirit in us. Though Christ came to give His life in payment for man's sin, those who remain of the world, and without the Spirit in them will never know of His love and they shall die in their sins, and be resurrected to damnation when Christ comes again.

1 John 4:12-13 (KJV) No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.

John 14:17 (KJV)
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.

Hi, Nancy. I think that verse reflects that God chose to have His people reckoned through Jacob, and not Esau. Just as when Paul quotes it in Romans 9, it reflects that God further chose to have His people reckoned through Jesus. I can understand it in an intellectual sort of way, but it doesn't make me feel a whole lot better.
David was a "Man after God's own heart" ❤️️ and "the apple of His eye".
John (according TO John, lol) was "the one" that Jesus loved. Abraham was called "a friend of God". So many examples of the diversity within His likes and dislikes! He can read deeply into our hearts so; He knows without a doubt those who love Him more...this is JMHO me bro :D

So yes, I do believe He "preferers" some over others. Yet, still loves us all...is there a parent alive that does NOT have a favorite among their children? :jest:
