"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will eat with him, and he with me" (Revelation 3:20)
since JWs believe that we are close to the end despite. Matthew 24:36
does this verse proof that Christians Should knock and doors and give a wittness.
The Revelation 3:20 verse is about Jesus knocking upon the door of the church (Laodicea), and the individual members heart therein that He may have entry. It is a knocking and calling by Jesus to be allowed in, since Jesus will not force His way in.
It (Revelation 3:20) can be used as an
example of Jesus ("stand at the door and knock") giving the Gospel ("If any man hear my voice") call to accept Him into the life, and thus in conjunction with Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Romans 10:13-18; James 5:10; 1 Peter 2:21; 1 John 2:6, and so on.
The WTS,
in that sense (as others like Seventh-day Adventists, Baptists, Evangelicals, and even LDS, knock on doors), is not wrong (though the WTS is wrong about a lot else), and further examples could be given, of Paul going out to public places to preach the gospel, and teaching from house to house, to the Prophets inviting to repentance in similar places, to their personal visitation (sending by God) of cities (Jeremiah, Jonah), of kings (Elijah), and commoners, to their visiting homes (such as Elijah and Elisha, and others did), as Jesus also "came unto his own" (even leaving His home in Heaven to come to this house) (His own house in the wilderness, His own people in Jerusalem, knocking to be allowed to be their personal Saviour; for though He died for all, many personally rejected Him).
As for Matthew 24:36, while no man knoweth the day or hour,
YET (for the Bible does not ever say we shall not ever know (but in fact says the opposite; Jeremiah 25:30; Joel 2:11, 3:16; Amos 1:2; Job 40:9; Psalms 18:13, 77:18, 104:7; 1 Samuel 2:10; 2 Samuel 22:14; Matthew 24:36; Mark 13:32; John 12:29; Acts 1:7; 2 Peter 1:17-18; Revelation 14:2), we shall know after the close of probation for mankind when the Father speaks it forth Himself), we can right now know, when it is
"near" (see also Obadiah 1:15; Zephaniah 1:14), and
"even at the doors" (Matthew 24:32-34; Mark 13:28-30; Luke 21:8; see also 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11; James 5:9; Daniel 12:1; Luke 13:25; and etc.), for a person is told to "watch" for their would be "signs" given in the church, and in the world.
So while no man, can
RIGHT NOW, have an exact date/time (for prophetic time as a test for God's people has ceased since the ending of the prophetic time of Daniel 8:13-14,26; Revelation 9:15, 10:6),
we can know the very nearness because of the
events transpiring, so not
YET the "time",
but right now the events.
We can know that we are close to the end, by several things, including Genesis 1; 2 Peter 3:8; Psalms 90:4; Isaiah 46:9-10; Matthew 13:35, the very prophecies and timeline given in Daniel 1-12; and in the Revelation, the events described in Matthew 24; Mark 13; Luke 21, and in the Epistles of Peter and Paul.
