A new presidential executive order declares English to be America’s official language.

Clearly, long overdue. Consider the follow verses from The Ballad of Davy Crocket:

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee
Greenest state in the land of the free
Raised in the woods so's he knew every tree
He killed him a b'ar when he was only three.

”So’s he knew”? “Killed him a b’ar”? We can imagine young Davy musing: “I might could kill me a b’ar.” “I’m a-fixin‘ to kill me a b’ar.”

The confusion these constructions have wrought on Americans may have been the trigger for a lost generation tuning out on various drugs.

Now, if our teachers will only inculcate proper English, instead of social justice platitudes, the American mind might turn around (and even turn to God).

Blessings.

Social justice is a sham my friend , meant only to divide
and then later unite all under a common delusion they beleive is a solution .
As far as english , however , teaching one english is not gonna turn anyone to GOD .
Teaching and preaching JESUS can . time the church start doing that again rather than preaching
a false love that will save none .

I disagree. It has much to do with how I returned to the faith, learning more words of my own native language. How could I appreciate the depth of Scripture if I did not know the meaning of the words it contains?

As the symbols of math for equations and calculations, words empower us to apply logic and reason for analysis of abstract ideas. The richness of language allows one to test perspectives and challenge thoughts without ever opening their mouth. By learning unto understanding the nuance of contextual impact, pertinent historical details, various translations, and all the information one can absorb as it pertains to a given word or phrase, we can increase our perception of Scriptural intent as well as of the world in general.

Metaphor is challenging enough without centuries between authors and millennia between readers. One of the greatest costs of modern technology has been the unwitting sacrifice of thought and language by the masses. This may be sign of that impending famine of the word we read about.
