That's interesting. I thought you were a pastor...but of course, you can work a secular job and be a pastor as well. Did you work for the police lab or what?

I’m a retired pastor. I declined to accept a salary and benefits that pastors typically receive and supported myself and my family with a salary and benefits that came from working as a civil servant / environmental engineer. I worked occasionally with police labs but never for them. I investigated crimes and suspected crimes for various state government environmental protection agencies.

Mine was, as you suggested, a bi-vocational life / career.

That is commendable for you to support yourself and your family rather than taking money and benefits from the church people.

That’s very kind of you to say. The congregation I pastored was small. I was blessed to be in a position where I would have declined financial compensation if it had been large, but the ability of the small congregation wouldn’t have been enough in any case to adequately provide what I needed to support myself and my family.

I don’t have an issue with pastors being financially compensated for their labor by the people in their care. It just happened to be a perfect fit for me and a perfect fit for the congregation I served.

No I have not, but thanks. I enjoy foreign films, will check it out.

The twilight Samurai is more of a love story than a martial arts flick. There are a couple of fight scenes, but nothing like your typical martial arts movie.

"The Boys From Brazil "

Is The Boys from Brazil about the Nazis that fled to South America? If so I'll try to find it on Tubi.

The German Doctor was very interesting....true story about that Nazi doctor who did horrible experiments on children in the concentration camp. It told the story of how he was living in South America, renting from a family. They had no idea who he really was.

It's well made and held my interest. It's free on Tubi, also YouTube. Just type in the explore box to find it on Tubi.

Here's a short trailer...

Yes, but not much. I would say we could learn a lot more by how much time is spent on entertainment generally, versus more profitable endeavours.

Welcome to the forum.

Forty-eight hours ago I didn’t even know you existed. In the last twenty-four hours I’ve learned a significant amount about you.

The college professor I had in Pastoral Counseling classes taught us that we should study people. We can do that by watching them but that gives us limited insight. We can gain additional insight by listening to them speak.

I’m not investigating any suspected criminal activity and I can’t physically observe anyone on this platform. What I’m doing is using a a non-threatening topic to encourage people to talk. Forty-eight hours ago I didn’t even know you existed. In the last ten hours I’ve gained a significant amount of insight about you just from listening to you talk. The movies you like and don’t like tells me a little something about you but the conversation that followed tells me more.

I have a little better idea now of what interests you. Knowing what people are interested in (and not interested in) helps us form relationship.

Have you noticed which forum this thread is located in?
