For six years I flew every other week. Obviously, I have horror stories about flying. However I have one Christian story and one worst case. Worst case first.

Edmonton, Alberta Airport Hilton .... My room is on the far side of the hotel near the indoor pool. 3AM, the fire alarm goes off. I have a 5AM wake up call set ....I got up and walked to the lobby to find out why the alarm would not turn off. One other guy joins me in the Lobby. The desk is going nuts trying to figure out what was going on. I looked behind us and noticed smoke coming from under the door of the lounge. "Guys, do you think this has anything to do with the smoke here?" We were told to exit the hotel ...Edmonton, late February, snow on the ground. Pajama bottoms and tee shirt, house shoes on ....We stood in the cold with about 200 guests for two hours. Fire fighters satisfied about the fire and let us back in. 5AM, shower, pack and to the airport. The flight crew knew me and had a seat meant for the ordeal. Single seat, no one seated there. Stewardess put a blanket on me and said she would not check for a seat belt when we left. Thirty minutes from Tampa we hit thunder storms and we bounced our way in ...I was miserable ...

Sounds terrible. I've only experienced turbulence in commercial flights. But one time when I was in the military we were flying up to Canada in Chinook helicopters. I fell asleep and woke up to the terrible feeling of falling. The chopper hit a low pressure down draft and it dropped us at least 10' down. I was weightless.

Christian Story. Chicago, Friday afternoon. 2 PM. Boarding ....I said a selfish prayer. "Lord, you know the work I have to do for this final exam. Please don't anyone sit next to me during this flight." Riggght ...Friday afternoon, Chicago ....Tampa ....We boarded and there was half the plane empty. I had no one in the row with me. Cabin door closing, Unbuckle, lift arm rest, scoot over to the middle ....You got to be kidding. Take off, chime to get things out .....drop all three tray tables .....books, Bible, notes, tests . Ready to go ...and then it happens from across the aisle. "Excuse me, are you a Pastor?" I think if I were, I would answer the same ... "No Ma'am, I am a student." "What are you studying?" "The Four Gospels" "Oh, all the contradictions?" "Excuse me?" The debate was on. About thirty minutes out I held out my Bible and said "I think you need this more than I do." She would look things up and discuss ....When we landed in Tampa and got to the gate. I stood to allow the ladies out first. My neighbor turned and said ..."You convinced me to go back to church." "Not just any church, a Bible believing and preaching church. Then join a Bible study to learn as much as you can and be supported in your quest." The ladies filed out and a hand reached up behind me with a business card. "Best defense of the Bible I've heard in a long time. If you have a problem with your exam, have your professor call me and let me tell him about your work. You deserve the support and credit." CEO of Honeywell. I got my bags, in my truck, drove across Tampa to the Ice Palace, found my wife and we went into the Gaither Concert together. She had gotten a ride with friends so that she could ride home with me. On Saturday Morning, I took the exam and got another "A". Job well done. I keep reminding my Pastors that I made straight "A's" in religious studies .....

We've lost engines, landing gear, mechanical turn around, turbulence flying that much, you experience it all.

Two Spring Break Beach Bunnies headed into Tampa .....screaming with every bounce. In the middle of a thunder storm. "Shhhhhhh, ladies calm down before you scare the tourists." I talked to them while we exited the storm.... Calmed them down. "You weren't scared?" "I go by what I was taught walking steel 100 feet off the ground. If you fall, all the screaming in the world will not save you. May as well make it look good and look for the score cards before the sudden stop.

Right now would be an appropriate time to play 'raw hide'
