They are not serious right? It seems more like mocking then legitimate.

I know what this is referring to.
I know about one church group (not using their names), about 5 men and 3 women, who were raising money locally, to go on a mission trip in a south-american country.
There were the usual cooky sales etc. There was a "fund raising" supper in the church, etc etc.
The goal was to be in that country one week and help building a church.
Well, the group did go, flying out of Vancouver, to Los Angelos, from there to some airport in Texas.
Staying over in hotels.
When they arrived at the destination, they needed two day recovering from the trip. That left 5 days for work on the church, but several afternoons were spend at the beach and shopping somewhere.
Photos of all this were emailed back home.
They actually built one wall, on a foundation, with big building blocks, about 5 feet high.
Day 6 was spend preparing for the return trip.
On day 7 they flew back to Canada. I'm not sure how much this trip costs/person.
Another group of the same denomination would arrive later to continue the job.
I didn't hear a word about preaching and souls being saved.

So, here's the thing. If I would be in charge of this project I would raise the money and put all the travel expenses in one bucket and send it down there with one construction guy and employ local people to built the church.
Pay them decent wages and bless their families with an income and a job.

Now, I realize I'm a bit of a redneck outcast in this denomination which I left 2 years ago.

I'm a bus.man and our company spend 5000 dollars in an south african country to help construct a girls school.
The school was done with local workers. There was money left to buy furniture.
Took about 40 days to finish.

And of rant.

Lesson: Be careful where you give your money.

Very sad eh.
And we wonder why 'the man in the street' is turned off by the word "Christian".

I didn't know God was into real estate, you know land ownership and buildings, maintenance, rates and all the associated.
Gatherings in private homes and pot luck lunches, making it personal. Minimal overheads. Keep the group smallish and multiply. Forget all the religious trappings, its hardly real anyway.
I'm weary of the standard format where everyone is 'nice' and I can't connect. Half an hour after the sermon people are hard pressed to remember details or the point and I get odd looks when the question is asked. The conversation usually drifts to the mundane in a 'nice' sorta way.

NICE

When nice was born the angels wept
and Satan was a grinner
for truth now had a counterpart
which made him look a winner.

That polished smile with interest feigned
an act to win an Oscar
a heart annealed, with pride displayed
aspiring of the all star.

Ahhhh, nice, she walks the pleasant way
with flattery as companion
a single unit, how they dance
as if they were the champions.

Observer with the practiced eye
will watch as she undresses
yet baring all holds no surprise
in spite of her caresses.

Some say it's border line mocking.

I suppose I could see that. I have to be sensitive to people. But for me personally, that's way too touchy. The tendency to be too easily offended by such things is to me a sign of some form of spiritual weakness or compromise. Scripture commands that we not be easily offended, nor keep record of wrongs done to us. (1 Corinthians 13:5)
