Quite often he follows closely the way things were, or were supposed to be, in Catholicism prior to Vatican II. Vatican II certainly caused another split in their own ranks, but probably most Catholics really did not care one way or the other in ways that really matter to God.

The official RCC position is probably simply that those who wanted to stay behind were just a new wave of Protestants. Strange that those who want to hold what had long been the official position with regard to Protestants might now themselves be categorized as Protestants. Hmmm?

in my experience Catholics are as varied in their doctrines as anyone else, yeh
