My posting was intended as irony. If you read the link, it has an example of a Canadian will need to wait over a year just to obtain a an ultrasound.

Canada or UK are not the only countries with socialized healthcare though. Looking solely at countries which are generally in problems is not motivating, of course. Canada has specific issues, like too few medical workers and too high inflow of immigrants. And it is a big country with low density of population. Put it together and of course, it will not be easy to make it as successful like for example in Austria, Finland or Poland.
The "horror stories" from the US are also plenty and seem to be worse (people in serious conditions afraid to call an ambulance or to go to a doctor, people becoming homeless because of medical bills...).
And you can always pay a private healthcare if you want, in a country with free public healthcare. You are not
forced to rely on the free one only, if you live somewhere where you can not get it soon enough. A private clinic ultrasound costs from 150 CAD.
