I grew up thinking I needed to always mature, be more responsibly, get serious about achieving, and basically never rest.

This thread is about guarding whimsy or the playful side of life as an important priority.

In the past I said I wanted to be totally selfless and not consider my needs at all.

This didn't produce good results because I was constantly tired and burnt out. I actually do my best work for others when my own needs are taken care of and no longer a distraction.

Ive decided to do at least one whimsical thing for myself and others a week. This week, I ordered a some nightwear since I haven't had pajamas in a while. I also did a home french manicure. I decided to bring in some school themed cupcakes for my children's speech therapists and the other staff to say thank you.

Some days I don't feel whimsical. Im just tired, though it feels wrong to admit it. Sometimes I leave the chores, cut on some music and waste time. I treasure this time.

I carry responsibilities as a wife, mother, and homemaker. But even I need time to just be like the lilies of the field.

Sometimes I listen to the same Playlist over and over. I get in ruts. I get lost in the routine.

The Lord reminds me that His creation is there for me to enjoy. Time to find new music.

I’ve always believed in biorhythms and flowing with them is important. Rules for Christian Living - Romans 12:15 When others are happy, be happy with them, and when they are sad, be sad - applies to ourselves also!

On another thread, I was severely criticized for saying the most like Christ we can be is being friends with everyone. It’s kind of sad that we aren‘t taught to practice self-love and self-care. While some of us are tempted to leave the narrow path due to hubris, others leave it for shame or guilt.

We know we’d give others a break, the benefit of the doubt. Why not treat ourselves with equal compassion and generosity of spirit? I’m reminded that we aren’t human doings but human beings,
