I hope Heaven has a highway and lots of things to see;
among the best of times we've ever known,
was out here, just the two of us, with all the time to be
two nomads out to make the world our own.

It was raining in Muskogee
beneath a sullen sky;
we stopped to gas it up at the QT.

As we left, years fell away then
and we were young again,
like driving home at break just you and me.

All that I've been given, all
I've done because of you
will never be enough, I know that's right.

But when we're on the road, we two,
just free and on our own,
it's like I fell in love the other night.

We really spoke of nothing there
that mattered very much;
we laughed and talked about the coming day.

Reconnecting with each other
the way we always do;
two different souls but going the same way

I hope Heaven has a highway and lots of things to see;
among the best of times we've ever known,
was out here, just the two of us, with all the time to be
two nomads out to make the world our own

It's a great thing, sharing the road with the one you love. I'm pleased it brought back those memories for you.

A great poem. I see a bit of Cohen and Dylans style of writing with flowing verses telling a story. I like the idea of a highway. It conjures up a journey. It would make a good song I reckon.

I think ballads are supposed to be songs. It's a form of poetry I never tried before. And I think I like it.
