My wife's sister said she went to our local Mall today and it was just deader than a doornail. Almost no one was there, just a few people walking around. No music, no nothing, and that it was truly depressing.

That might just be the death nell to our local Acadiana Mall, which was pretty nice-sized mall and enjoyable to go to. It was PACKED with people at this time of year just a few years ago.

Went looking, and found something on it. Looks like a lot of malls are predicted to go under in the next few years.

Our mall has 1 of 3 anchor stores occupied, and maybe 70% occupancy otherwise.

Same here Hidden, many have closed down all together too. It's all online now. God has blessed us in my area to still have a few small townships with mom and pop stores. They sure are far and few between anymore. :(

The Covid shutdowns put the coup-de-grace on our oldest mall. It was the merciful thing to do; the mall had been in a long-term decline due to macro-economic changes and incompetent management. It was a real neat place to hang out in during its heyday. One of the cool features was a huge indoor carousel. I have some pictures of my grandchildren riding on the painted ponies going up and down.

Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories; They're all that's left you

The big regional mall (which contributed to the older mall's economic decline by drawing customers away) is still economically viable. The local thugs staged a small fire-fight there on Black Friday weekend. Three people wounded, including a 10-year-old kid. You might have seen it on the news.

@Lambano So is this the place where you said the ear piercing kiosk that your family used has closed?

My biggest fear is that the mini-Mall relatively close to us shuts down someday, because then it becomes nothing more than a hollowed out, graffiti-riddled monstrosity to have to drive past and look at every day. It's just depressing seeing buildings that are no longer of any use to anyone anymore.

Depressing is right :( Around here, instead of taking over empty buildings, they just build more and more new ones! Why can't they take over the myriad empty ones? We have a ton of them in and around Buffalo.
Crazy upside-down backwards stoooooopid world.

The old mall is being repurposed as a medical complex. A lot of the old tobacco warehouses have been repurposed as shops and condos. And relevant to another of Farouk’s threads, the parlor where my wife got her nosed pierced is a repurposed industrial building. So I guess we’re doing it a little better here (hard to believe).

mall? hows your local radioshack, hidden?

wanna rub it in like that...

lol Last time I went to the mall it was empty. They will be on those YouTube creepy abandoned malls shows soon enough.

Amazon rules over the shopping world, so the real life jobs died, and now unemployment for normal people is limited, and what used to be the most beautiful parts of this state are now covered in tents and broken rvs.

The internet broke it. But not all is lost- zoos are still cool, camping is still cool, clam digging is probably cool. been a while, long time

Clam diggin is like gold mining and fishing. Just follow the spit hole and bam got a catch!

Lol! Last time I went, it wasn't for fun- it was a work for survival thing with people I didn't like, who forced me to go. I was 18 and more of a city girl then.

would totally go on my own terms today, would be cool

I miss Radio Shack. It’s absolutely ridiculous that to get a couple of connectors for an electronics project, I had to order a combo package of 50 from Amazon (including 4 different sizes I didn’t need), pay shipping costs, and wait a week for it. I could walk into Radio Shack and usually find what I needed.

Just strolling around the mall was one of my wife’s favorite past times. We haven’t done that since the Covid shutdowns. We’ll probably spend an afternoon doing that when my granddaughter and her fiancé’ come for Christmas.

Our local shopping mall is really busy, they have all the Christmas lights up, it’s right on. Right on town centre, which is also just as busy as normal for this time of year… we have seen some shops close but many survived.

I love clam chowder. I grew up on a bay area and we used to clam dig. The clam chowder was my favorite part after getting cold from clam digging. I really enjoyed it.

I haven't checked out our mall yet. But my FredMeyers gets packed on Christmas time and always packed in the pm hours.

I used to love radio shack. I grew up creating LED projects and timer projects. We used to have a HeNe LASER that we applied to a spinning slanted mirror to make a light show. Smoking cigars for the smoke effect. Then when I experimented I would go to Radio Shack and Frys Electronics for my magnetic wiring and UV lamps. Ah the days or gone now I just work on theory now, much cheaper and takes less of my efforts.

takes a long time for parts that have to come from China, too. There are over 1,000 resisters in here (not mine) and it is either excessive or a life time supply

Thats not my deal it is just the makeshift lab I live with. Im not smart enough for that and i made a no talking to me about science rule lol
