Deadreconning is a sailing term where if you are off by even the smallest amount, you could be off course by miles.

In other words, if what you believe is true came from the teachings of men and their interpretations--if they were wrong--so are you. And if it all just makes sense to YOU, that's not likely good enough. No true doctrine of God comes from men's own understanding--His thoughts are higher.

All of ones own thoughts, beliefs, understanding, or interpretations should be considered suspect. And even the scriptures have been confused by God and interpreted by fallible men. Meaning, the scriptures alone offer no true correction of what is actually true.

As Christians, we need to understand this, and take to heart the warnings in the Bible. Passages speaking of "false teachers" within the church and "strong delusion" are there for a reason--because it's no small matter, and what most people believe is likely the most corrupt doctrine.

The book of Matthew actually tells where it all went off track for the church, showing a fork in the path of one path following "flesh and blood" (man) and what comes directly from the Father. And the history is now clear--the early church took the wrong path...from which most common, modern church doctrine comes from and is still taught.

There are different ways written that the early church went wrong, and the early church was also referred to in general as well as specifically. For example Jesus had somewhat against 5 out the 7 churches He named in the book of Revelation.

But the big or main one I was referring to in Matthew 24, is when Jesus asked His disciples who people said He was, then cornered Peter to answer for himself. Peter answered correctly, not from his own understanding, but by what was given to him by the Father. After which Jesus defined how He would build His church not by flesh and blood, but by the same means Peter had received his correct answer. This was Jesus essentially setting before those to follow who would become His church, "life and death, blessing and cursing" just as Moses had done with Israel.

But almost immediately afterJesus ascended, men began to follow Peter (flesh and blood). Then during the following years of the apostles, both Peter and Paul warned of false teachers among the church, and John confirmed saying that the spirit of anti-Christ was already at work.

OK

Yes. Seems history just abruptly ended when the last Apostle died.

I was wondering what the early church taught that was wrong....
you haven't stated it.

Also, when the early church is mentioned...we don't really mean while the Apostles were still alive.
I think the Apostles taught the truth...so the early church, maybe, had to come after??

History for Israel did end ("It is finished"). At the same time it was just getting good for the church and the gentiles.

As for what the church taught that was wrong-- Oh yeah, I was really only referring to when they veered off the path. But what they taught that was wrong was propapegated by the false teachers spoken of by Peter, and confirmed by John as "already at work." Which came as a result of unbelief for some not seeing Jesus return "soon" or "quickly" and all that He said "must shortly come to pass." From which they imaged that "this generation" most have meant a future generation where those of that generation would see what Jesus described, which then became the commonly believed doctrine still taught to this present day. All of which is against Jesus saying "the kingdom of God comes not by observation."

As for the apostles not being a part of the false teaching, we of course would like to think they were not. But we need to remember that Jesus and John both spoke of corruption already occurring within that present time. Also, that Peter and Paul (and others) did not agree or see things the same. However, surely what is written is true, as the scriptures are under the ultimate providence of God alone.

Still don't know what "they" taught that is wrong.

John was speaking about gnostics of course.
They definitely taught incorrect doctrine.

The false teachers within the early developed and taught a doctrine of all that Jesus said "must shortly come to pass" during that generation, that would instead not come until some time in the future.

But don't blame the gnostics, they were wrong too, but more correct and showing more belief in all that Christ said of the timing of when things would occur, than those false teachers and all who came to believe what they taught that is still believed and taught today. Blaming the the gnostics, is what those false teachers do to justify their own false doctrine.

Christians now should not believe either one--but return to the place in the scriptures where the false teachers turned to follow the wrong path of "flesh and blood" following men rather than strictly following Christ and what comes from the Father (as Jesus described how He would build His church)...and begin again by taking the correct path.

Following Christ cannot be done by taking the wrong path. Unfortunately, that is what most churches and Christians think they are doing.
