Deadreconning is a sailing term where if you are off by even the smallest amount, you could be off course by miles.
In other words, if what you believe is true came from the teachings of men and their interpretations--if they were wrong--so are you. And if it all just makes sense to YOU, that's not likely good enough. No true doctrine of God comes from men's own understanding--His thoughts are higher.
All of ones own thoughts, beliefs, understanding, or interpretations should be considered suspect. And even the scriptures have been confused by God and interpreted by fallible men. Meaning, the scriptures alone offer no true correction of what is actually true.
As Christians, we need to understand this, and take to heart the warnings in the Bible. Passages speaking of "false teachers" within the church and "strong delusion" are there for a reason--because it's no small matter, and what most people believe is likely the most corrupt doctrine.
The book of Matthew actually tells where it all went off track for the church, showing a fork in the path of one path following "flesh and blood" (man) and what comes directly from the Father. And the history is now clear--the early church took the wrong path...from which most common, modern church doctrine comes from and is still taught.
