Nikko sounds very Niceo
It takes 32 hairpin turns to get up the mountain to Nikko. Quite the bus journey.
Looks like some of the rural roads in NZ.
So you have been to Japan, @Debp? I have a bit of Japanese in my DNA.

Yes I spent a week in Japan years ago. Visited Tokyo, Nikko and Kyoto. You can do a day trip out of Tokyo to Nikko by train. Then board a bus up the mountain to Nikko.Looks like some of the rural roads in NZ.
I spent three nights in Kyoto and really enjoyed it, too.

I know a former missionary to Japan (now retired and back in the USA after serving her whole adult life in Japan.) She served in the mountains of Japan, Toyama Ken (province). She went to only villages.

Former Toyota Tundra owners from the USA have recently gathered in large numbers on Mt Fuji to summons Godzilla.Indeed. You take your life in your own hands when you travel to the cities...
They are irate that Toyota went from the most reliable 1/2 ton pickup to the one that self-destructs within a year or two of ownership.

Except in the mountains of Japan, the wild monkeys can be aggressive. Judy the missionary said in Japan they sell rubber bullets to chase the monkeys away.
Maybe that's why the Japanese monkeys can be aggressive? I was in contact with wild monkeys in Indonesia and Malaysia years ago. A monkey in Indonesia took a peanut from me. But he held onto my finger as he knew I had another peanut hidden in my hand! I squealed and a nearby vendor came running. But as soon as I gave him the other peanut, he left. There were hordes of forest monkeys that came as they knew tourists would feed them.
In Malaysia a monkey accompanied me as I climbed the Batu Cave steps (300 steps). He was climbing alongside me on the cement railing. But our tour guide had fed the monkeys before so they didn't bother us for food.

Batu Caves, Malaysia....when I visited the steps were only a few feet wide and plain colored cement.
I love the UK. Was blessed to visit London and some other cities and towns. The little villages are quaint and the countryside is beautiful. Large historic estates are great to see as well.

Aw, man. I had a chance to go to London on a business trip a few years back, but I couldn't get my passport renewed in time. One of my colleagues went in my place. The company put him up in a hotel right next to the famous Tower Bridge.

Once you drive a road several times, you memorize the curves, the dips and climbs, etc ...so you're not riding the brake so much. :)
