What is your motivation when gambling? There are play money sites for entertainment purposes.

The key is to examine one's motivations and to ensure that any participation in gambling does not lead to a love of money, financial irresponsibility, or become a source of addiction

The Bible does not explicitly point out that gambling is a sin.[...]

Can you stop gambling? Is it an addiction?[...]
They gambled at the Cross, remember?

The important thing is, to remember to pay your tithes of what you win. You would be surprised how much generosity, helps you keep "self-control".

There is a similar phenomenon with alcohol and anything not enjoyed in moderation.

Do a word search on "casting lots" in the Old Testament. Also, look up Urim and Thummin, which my pastor once referred to as "God's holy dice" :

“The priest could use the urim and thummin to determine God’s will in a particular situation. We are not exactly sure what the urim and thummin were, but the priest carried in his breastplate perhaps two sticks or stones, one white and the other black, that would give a yes or no answer to a specific question. Should Israel be preparing for battle, they would somehow shake or toss the sticks. If they turned up black the Israelites would not go to battle, and if they turned up white they would proceed into battle with the knowledge that they were in the will of God. That is one form of divination that God allowed in the Old Testament." (Bruce Waltke, Finding the Will of God)

The Bible does not explicitly point out that gambling is a sin. However, it is wise to have self-control, Proverbs 25:

Titus 1:

Can you stop gambling? Is it an addiction? If you gamble so much that you lose self-control, then it is sin.

Should a Christian buy lottery tickets?

I don't because I know the odds are against me.

If you do the lottery occasionally as a form of entertainment, I think it is fine. But if you think you can get rich by it, then it is not wise. The statistics are overwhelmingly against you.
Well it is not about the odds or entertainment or anything like that. It is the heart attitude. The odds for a believer are exactly 2-1. Either god will let us win or He will not!

Is Gambling Sin?

The bible tells us that whatever we become a slave to becomes our master. Romans 6:16.

Gambling isn't a sin in itself but like any addiction, it can lead to idolatry and the bible teaches us to have no other Gods. Exodus 20:3, Exodus 34:14, Matt 4:10, Luke 4:8

Gambling is poor stewardship.

And it's not the same as casting lots.
