It seems that the Bible implies that God at times makes believers suffers on his own demand. Typically when something bad happens a Christian will say "God doesn't cause pain it's the devil" but how true is this?

Acts 9:16

I will show him how much he must suffer for my name."

Philippians 1:29

"For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in him, but also to suffer for him,"

1 Peter 4:19

So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

1 Peter 3:17

For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

All one has to do is read about Job, Jesus life and the Apostles who all suffered for the sake of the gospel . All those in Christ will suffer persecution. The world hates us and will persecute and cause suffering all by the will of God.

The question should be why are some “ so- called “ Christians not suffering for the sake of the gospel ?

hope this helps !!!

In my understanding, neither God nor the devil create suffering. We create our own suffering by committing sin just as if you put your hand in fire, you will get burnt. God or the devil don't burn, fire does. Now God encourages us to do things that will bring peace to us when the devil will talk us into doing things which will lead us to suffer.

Some people find it a hard doctrine to swallow, and maybe understandably so, but the early church teaching was that sufferings and trials are precisely what refines our faith like gold tried in the fire. It is only when we have the desires for the things of this world burned away like impurity that we are fully purified for the Lord's greatest uses.

For verily when we were with you and told you before , that we should suffer persecution , tribulation .
I am going to quoate a particular writing in second thessalonians the first chapter that most might overlook .
So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God
for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that you endure
WHICH is a manifest token of the Righteous Judgment of GOD
that you may be counted Worthy of the Kingdom of GOD for which you Suffer .
Or how about this one .
For not only is it given unto you to believe on HIM
but also to SUFFER for His name sake .
WHY do we think the apostels always rejoiced after they had been beaten or persecuted .
THEY rejoiced that they had been COUNTED WORTHY to Suffer shame for His name .
JESUS said BLESSED ARE YOU when you are persecuted , reviled , etc for HIM .
HE said HAPPY Are you . HE said LEAP up and REJOICE even . FOR GREAT is your reward in heaven .
Its like i love to say , TO LIVE , TO SUFFER , TO DIE FOR JESUS is GAIN . TO lose everything for HIM is even gain .
NO matter what comes against us , LET THE LORD BE PRAISED . YES INDEED .
But woe unto you when men shall speak well of you , for so did they unto the false prophets .
yeah woe unto you , IF the WORLD LOVES YOU . Marvel not if the world hates you , IT HATED JESUS FIRST .
IT hates us , cause We are called out of it . Our walking By His grace , exposes the evil . And the world dont and wont love that .

Afterall, God draws near to the brokenhearted. As strange as it seems to us humans, it's actually a good thing. It's taken me a very long time to come to this understanding, having to accept a special needs son who will not be "like other men". The pressure I get from family and society is a horrible feeling to bear. At the end of the day, I just have to trust that God has a bigger plan and I can lean on Him for His understanding.

I thought I had posted on this subject posited by the same user . . . and yes I had, in the debate forum.

Basically, suffering is a consequence of the human will acting contrary to God's Will in the Garden of Eden. I don't blame God, saisigh, because He gave fair warning.
