In trying to be brutally honest here (of course this is just my take), the taking of "pharmacia" of any kind is sinful.

Is that to say that "love" that covers a multitude of sin, or leading one to Christ does not cover a multitude of sin?
Certainly not!

On the one hand, "love" should not be used to the point of abuse that seduces one, nor give license to continue in sin that God's Grace may abound either! Something that has and still persists in great abundance throughout all Christendom, and mankind in general. And for quite some time.

On the other hand, God knows the weaknesses of these corruptible flesh bodies where rain falls on the just as well as the unjust.

Pharmacia has its good points. Pharmacia has its bad points.

Point being that God has the ability to cure and even prevent any need or reliance upon pharmacia.
Just as pharmacia is striving to cease and desist any need or reliance on God!
If I don’t take medicine I don’t sleep. Twice I have went two weeks without sleep and both times I wound up in the hospital. The Doctors told me going without sleep is much worse than any side effects of the medication. So I take the medication. I still don’t sleep great but I sleep better than without it. I say if the medicine helps you then take it.

What meds do you take? You don't have to answer if you don't want. Ty

Well it has changed. I was on Ambien and I had some bad experiences with that so now I take an antidepressant that has the same effect without the behavior that Ambien caused. I have cut back on the amount and started taking melatonin and keep gradually taking less medication but I still can’t sleep without it.

Magnesium and calcium helps you relax and is a must for natural sleep patterns.

Magnesium Glycinate

DO NOT take Magnesium Oxide as it is not good for your body unless you have constipation.

When i have a hard time falling asleep i heat up some milk and have it with whole grain cereal (low sugar) along with Magnesium.

A lack of magnesium is the leading cause of many illnesses including neurological.

Peace and Blessing to You

Yeah? Tis a very noble cause, this thing called "the unseen war." One can try running, much like Jonah attempted. Or? pharmacia, to numb one's senses into even attempting to manipulate an interpretation that best suits ones' tradition/s or precepts.

Yet? As we have read in the book of Jonah? Tis God and His Priests (messengers/angels of all kinds of ranks, and levels befitting the government that Jesus Christ of Nazareth bares on His shoulders) that actually "push yer buttons" (I am speaking of unseen here) so to speak. He is the One who created us after all (for His good pleasure), and knows the intent/s of our heart. So, He knows how to manipulate one's thoughts into even giving cause for one to convince oneself that an individual came up with the idea himself.

Or? One can take the "bull by the horns" so to speak.

May even find yourself sleeping better at the end of your day.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using pharmaceuticals. They are often essential to combat health problems. There are, of course, side effects and physicians should discuss them with the patient prior to prescribing them.

IMHO it is extremely important to have a primary physician that is medically knowledgeable coupled with an understanding of a patient's concerns.

Hi so I've been away from this site for several weeks. But I have a question now. Is it sinful to use antipsychotic medications? Could a Christian argument be made that using stuff like SSRIs and other meds be considered sorcery today? I'm on a drug regimen myself and I feel I kind of need to be, otherwise I don't feel so hot in my mind. I'm not taking a whole cocktail of meds, just one. Please be brutally honest if you think it is or isn't. One defense for using is that God created everything to have certain properties and that when these properties are discovered and utilized to produce a medication, God is glorified that His creation has been used to heal another of their ailments. What do you guys think?
No. A question like that makes me suspect that you are not sure about what sin is.
We get an idea of what sin is from the Ten Commandments and beyond that, what God tells us to do and not to do.
"Missing the mark" was a phrase used to express what sin is. What mark? The mark of perfection, righteousness, love and anything that is good.
So medication prescribed by a doctor that actually works.m, does not fall into those definitions of sin.

Another way of looking at sin is any activity or thing that controls you, that has mastery over you as in an addiction. Don't let anything or person be your master, accept God. We are slaves to God or slaves to Satan and sin. It is said that everyone worships something; either themselves, another person, money or drugs. It is idolatry. The world offers many things and most of it is "vanity of vanities" and "chasing after the wind'.
Back to this drug -- it is controlling you in a good way.

The other thing about sin is subjective. Some people have a weakness with certain temptations and so they need to stay clear of those. For instance it is not sin for me to have a couple glasses of wine, but it would be for an alcoholic.

Nancy, Why would I condone this? I was just quoting from the Bible, Would it be proper for me to condemn God's gift as something evil??

Probably one of the most powerful gifts God has given us is SEX. It also leaves us open to major destruction when abused!!

Some of God's greatest gifts to us are wonderful when used properly. After 80 years, my life has been made awesomely wonderful, being surrounded by the progeny stemming from the gift of sex!! Kids, grandkids and all that sort of stuff.

>>BTW-alcohol is a depressant, why would you even suggest drinking it to drunkenness?
Actually, it is a depressant for only 20% of the population. Drinking to drunkenness? That's an issue for you to take up with God. He's the One who says:

"Let him drink and forget his poverty,
and remember his misery no more."

Of course, not a big deal for someone who is dying. Strong drink is probably the quick solution, similar to today's loading up a dying person with morphine or whatever. Wine for someone whose life is miserable. Wine, when properly employed, can provide soothing relaxation long before the onset of inebriation.

God has given us powerful tools to address life. He has given us the freedom to use those tools for our benefit, or suffer the consequences of misusing them.
More quotes from the Bible:
Prov 23:29,30 Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has contentions? Who has complaints? Who has needless wounds? Who has bloodshot eyes? 30Those who linger over wine, who go to taste mixed drinks.…
Proverbs 23:21
For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags.

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.
Isaiah 5:11
Woe to those who rise early in the morning in pursuit of strong drink, who linger into the evening, to be inflamed by wine.

Isaiah 5:22
Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine and champions in mixing beer

In a word, no.

Besides the scriptures that have already been shared regarding God having provided plants , trees, for our healing I think it important to interject the fact that the PDR, Physicians Desk Reference, which lists all pharmaceuticals, their use, side effects, and so forth, has its origin in the herbal pharmacopeia.

In other words herbal medicines are the parent of many of today's synthesized prescriptions.

Fox Glove predated Tetracycline.
Willow Bark, White Willow Bark, preceded Aspirin.

Red Clover preceded blood thinners.
And doesn't hold the same side effects.

Fo-Ti , for hormone replacement therapy or as an prescription estrogen alternative,is a natural and far superior alternative to Premarin. Which is actually a name that is derived from its source. Pregnant, pre, mares, mar, urine, in.

The urine is harvested from mares that are made pregnant on the constant in order to harvest their urine in that state. And in the process of harvesting it is not unusual for the the colt in utero to perish.

God's medicine cabinet came first. ☺️

I'm on an anti-psychotic med. It was in 2001 when the Holy Spirit talked to me with power and authority and told me I needed to see a doctor. I was filled with a heavenly measure of love and peace that lasted for 3 hours. In that I saw Jesus' spirit and the Holy Spirit. When I went to the doctors they put me on the meds.

Anyone that is against these meds is a crack pot and I hope you don't listen to them.

Addiction is a minor issue. My kids got in huff after my doctor prescribed oxytocin; and one of them is even a doctor specializing in treating addictions. So I related the concern to my doctor who is a geriatric specialist. He said that of all his patients on 'addictive' medications, only 2% have the slightest issue with stopping the med, and on .5% have a significant issue with it.

But God has prescribed medications for those who are suffering from depression:
"Give strong drink to one who is perishing,
and wine to the bitter in soul.
Let him drink and forget his poverty,
and remember his misery no more." Proverbs 31

"Wine to gladden the heart of man" Psalm 104.

We are talking about booze God has provided as a medication. And to drink until one forgets their sorrow, suggests significant dosage!!
Stan, I had to take doctor prescribed pain meds for a couple years from a bad surgery and they are highly addictive and the withdrawals are terrible.

I like your alcohol idea to relieve some mental stress. But it is also addictive and can be dangerous.

Alcohol was highly addictive for me. I was addicted from my first time, getting drunk one night at 14. When I was rehabing, the doctors explained it as that my metabolism was different, and that when I first got alcohol in my system, it very efficiently metabolized it to sugar, and my body immediately recognized it as the new preferred source. Instant alcoholic. So now I don't touch a drop!!

Much love!

Anyone who is against any meds for mental illness obviously doesn't understand mental illness! Some of these things let us have our lives back!

Much love!

Yes, Many that have mental illness would be in prison without their meds. Mentally ill people can have a psychotic episode without their meds and find themselves with a life they didn't choose, in prison.

Nah, God put all kinds of stuff on earth to help us, for example-
"Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing" (Ezekiel 47:12)
But if your meds make you feel worse, ditch them and try something else.
My doctor once put me on anti-depressants even though I told her I wasn't depressed, but I tried them just to keep her happy and they made me feel weird like I was on another planet so I flushed them down the loo, and it took another few weeks before they were out of my system and I felt normal again..:)
hmmmm, so you take anti-depressants just to keep your doctor happy even though you knew you weren't depressed? hmmm. Now that sets an interesting precedent!......and could it be that many pharmaceuticals are synthetic?......and yes, I must admit that opiates (heroin, morphine, cocaine) are plant based. Is that justification to indulge? .....and marijuana/ hashish/ tobacco... because it is plant based, does this justify using it?

I strongly suggest if someone wants to dispose of pharmaceuticals do not flush them down the toilet.

If they're tablets crush them and trash them, if capsules open the caps and dump the meds.
