For the longest time, I've had this feeling of dread. Like the rug was about to get pulled out from beneath my feet. I've never known what it was, so I would always try to ignore it. Well, I've had a few things happen recently that have changed me as a person. I guess you could say I was always kind of on a high horse.

Well, lately I've been watching what's happening out there in the world, while simultaneously looking inward and towards this character of Jesus Christ. The funny thing is, the more time I spend learning about him and listening to what he had to say, the more real he seems relative to the world.
Others may call it grasping for straws in the face of dread. Your feelings may be an early sign of depression. If you find yourself eating less and not sleeping well - these things cause changes in brain chemistry that can ultimately give rise to suicidal ideation. Modern science has solutions.

No. I’m a primitive Christian.

Judaism rejects Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah. Christianity embraces Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah.
Right. I guess I'm getting a little confused. You said that Jesus was practicing a version of Judaism. You also said that the Matthew 16:18 verse was referring to Judaism and not Christianity.

What do you mean by "primitive Christian"?

Primitive Christianity is undeveloped Christianity. It is the original Jewish sect founded and headed by Jesus in the 1st century.

Christianity was in the beginning Jewish.

I don’t know if this will help clear or further muddy the water for you @Riven. Antony Flew includes an Appendix in his book that is dialogue he had with N.T. Wright, a Christian scholar. Wright writes,

”One of the great Jewish scholars of our day, Jacob Neusner, who’s written several major books on Judaism, wrote a book about Jesus. In it he said that when he reads that Jesus said things like, ‘You have heard that it was said thus and so, but I say unto you this and this and this,’ I want to say this to Jesus: Who do you think you are? God?”

(There Is A God, pp. 191-192)

That’s a classic Jewish rejection of Jesus.

Wright then comments,

”Jesus is actually giving a new law, a radically fresh interpretation of the law, and is claiming, in certain respects, to override the way the law was being understood and interpreted.”

(Ibid., p. 192)

The sect Jesus founded is a reform movement within Judaism.

You’ve asked about my primitive Christian perspective @Riven.

Rejecting fractured and fragmented Christianity isn’t the same thing as rejecting Jesus.

Embracing Jesus isn’t the same thing as embracing fractured and fragmented Judaism.

Solid ground is believing and obeying Jesus. Any other foundation is weak and will eventually buckle.

Then why call it Christianity, as opposed to say, Judaism 2.0?

No one in scripture calls it Christianity. I have a thread on the subject explaining why I have no issue changing my registration on this platform from “Christian” to “Other Faith”.

Why call it Christianity? To distinguish it from unbelieving Judaism.

To the left, unbelieving Judaism. To the right, developed Christianity (when fully developed, Nicene Christianity)

In the middle, primitive / undeveloped Christianity -> the Jewish sect of the Nazarene.

The middle is under pressure from both sides.

Do you find this illustration helpful or confusing @Riven?

Helpful. As an agnostic, I'm used to being the guy in the middle.

July 27, 2024.

Time passes swiftly. Are you learning about him and listening to him more, the same, or less now than you were a year ago?

About the same. He has yet to reveal himself to me like he has with so many others. Then again, I haven't been putting in the effort I should. So I can't be angry at him. Which is progress of a sort.

Progress is what I was looking for and hoping to see.

Why haven’t you been putting in the effort which you say that you should? Is it a short term or a long term problem that’s standing in your way?

Distractions. There's always something else I'd rather be doing.

Relative to the world, Christ is the only reality. I'm glad you are feeling better and growing closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Prayer is the single most effective way to grow in Christ. It took me a long time to learn this lesson. I pray you learn much faster than I did. Pray Riven, pray often, pray fervently, pray diligently, and never ever stop. Trust me on this one

I don't know you Riven, or what kind of music you like. But this was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of your post.

I used to love the liquor too, and for most of the same reasons. God delivered me. But I had to want to be delivered. I've also been abused by my so called brethren, I had to get delivered from that too.

You either love the Lord Jesus Christ more than anything else, or you don't.

And if you don't, then friend, you got bigger problems than just a few people who are treating you poorly. You are either putting Christ to an open shame and need to repent, or you are not as close to him as you think you are. That's not my call, but if you are serious about falling in love with Christ who died for you, we are here to help.
Much love.

An observation which I think is worthy of your consideration. From my X / Twitter “For you” feed this afternoon -

“Satan works through trivial distractions. …”

(Travis M. Snow)

I’ve found it to be true in my life.
There is always a thousand voices competing for your attention at any given moment. I see this on my YouTube feed. In many ways, everything has turned into the Jerry Springer show. Shock entertainment. The next big crisis. The stupidity.

It's mindless entertainment. I hate that it's become this thing that I rely on. But at the same time, it's hard to walk away from.
