What we think of ourselves or what others think of us is quite unimportant in God’s kingdom for only he has the right to judge us and we need to base our opinion of ourselves on what the Creator says about us.

He has called us to be his own, even though we may have low self-esteem, and he is the one who will make us beautiful and useful.

If we let our judgement of ourselves differ from what God says about us we are probably implying that he has got it wrong.

Scripture tells us to love others as we love ourselves but if we hate ourselves we will not be able to love others properly. I discovered many years ago that self dislike is a sin and needs to be confessed, we can then ask God to help us love ourselves.

This isn’t a selfish thing to do as it’s what he requires of us. It is one of the devils mean tricks to get Christians feeling unworthy and inadequate – so I don’t go there any more. I fight it.

This cuts to the heart!

God really does love us! He created the thing that pleased Him, and here we are!

This is one of my faith struggles, and I think you are exactly right, if we think differently, it's like God is wrong.

Sometimes it seems a hard thing to just let myself go and be loved! When I "know" I still have things wrong with me . . . (then those all important words) that is, in my flesh.

If we correct ourselves according to God's statements about us, this is the renewing of the mind. If we know and understand what God tells us about ourselves, this changes us into His image.

Much love!

Hi Pat,
Loving ones self is not an easy thing for so many. Yes, we need to believe what He say's about us

Thanks pearl. I like these kinds of threads. Which combine psychology with Christianity. I could have easily started a thread exactly like this.

That's me in a nutshell. I project my own self loathing. But I am capable of being kind. More would be nice. :)

I'm raised Catholic. Maybe you were to. We were encouraged not to blow out own trumpet. Lots of guilt.
It's not all bad. I maintain some real humility.
Btw
Self esteem...if Christian are full of the HS, they don't need self esteem right?
