I live on a five-acre property in Australia in the sought eastern corner of the state of Queensland and we have many birds on our property, magpies included. We have no fear of nesting magpies or plovers which both swop to protect their nests and young.
However, on our property none of the birds present a problem nor do they swoop down on us during their breeding season. I have never had problems with magpies or plovers, but I knew of people who rode their bikes where I rode my bike who had problems with birds.
Now when I am mowing on my 54" ride on mower, the magpies, butcher birds, peewees, plovers, kookaburras, ibises, wild ducks, just to name few birds, follow me and have a feast on the grubs etc in the lawn.
We are also hosts to large pythons which keep the possum population down for us.
If we ignore the bird population on our property, then the birds ignore us. However, if people come onto the property who are afraid of the birds, then the birds all sense their fear and will chase them, because it is these people who attack the birds, and the birds retaliate by swooping these people with much fanfare and noise.
I am sure that birds worldwide react in the same manner.

Do you also get any venomous snakes or spiders? Do they ever get into your house?
I follow a YouTube guy in South Africa who goes into homes and gardens to get venomous snakes out. Even Cobras get into the houses there! Not my cup of tea!
One guy's narrow garden was full of bushes, etc, perfect for snakes. The poor snake handler had to get up in a tree to even see the venomous snake in adjoining bushes.
I seen my clild attacked by magpie.
Once I was washing the car and 2 year old was up stairs looking out the window, so i said come down and you can wash the car, I was thinking she should be here by now and looked up and seen a magpie trying to peck her eyes out ! just jumping up and back down in front of her as she just stood their saying nothing but fending the bird off. Until I said get lost to the bird and it took off.
Another time she was say 6yo and a magpie swooped down as we were coming out of a shop and got her just above the eye ! and still has the scar.
I have never had a magpie have a go at me. I think they go for little kids and the reason why they will become a pest is that some one has attacked them, i would say ? like kids tossing rocks ? chasing them etc.
We have a lot of them here and I feed them at times if times are hard for them or the young and they get to know you are not the problem ? and will walk right up to me.
I seen one young one stumbling about in the heat in a drought and gave it water, it drank a lot ! and then was fine.
But around schools etc if they are nasty then such a one should be killed, but we have total idiots about that clearly have no regard the children in fact ! Total jerks ! but such jerks are idolised by fools !
People who ride bikes in areas where magpies are a problem will stick wire spikes on their helmets to keep the birds away from striking a the back of their heads. They also stick pictures of people's eyes onto the helmets as well to stop the birds from attacking.
Magpies are very intelligent birds, and they can discern which people are afraid of them and which people are really their friends.
It is strange that people with an "i" complex get attacked by magpies around their "eyes."

Wow, your kid was in danger, glad you were there to stop the attack.
They swoop down and move so fast, people may not have time to react.
Those birds remember people.

Here in the USA we have rattlesnakes.
I am old school and we kill everyone we see.
I've noticed since the advent of YouTube, that people cuddle rattlesnakes.
And they say such sweet nice things over them and feel sorry for them.
And they have a capture and release mentality for their precious rattlesnakes.
This is last days deception where people have misplaced values and they've lost their ever lovin minds.
Those things are pure evil.
I am old school and we kill everyone we see.
