Mark 6:30-44
New American Standard Bible 1995

In the previous verses you can see that Jesus had sent his Disciples out two by two and where given the authority to cast out demons and also to heal sick people. They were only to carry a, Staff, walking stick (which to me resembles how they were the branches trusting Jesus to do the works He sent forth for him to do). You also learn a bit more about John the Baptist and how John was a holy and just man. You also see the matters of the Herod Family and how they did things, in which Hero Antipas felt regret, and guilt for having John beheaded in prison.

30 The apostles *gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.

So after getting back from their trip in which Jesus had sent them forth to go and do; the apostles came and gathered around Jesus together reporting to Him all that they had done and taught others on their trip.

This is also suggestive of fellowshipping together and communication. It is almost representational of us today as believers; in how we come to the Father and pray telling God about the things going on in our life today and reporting our own problems and the good things too.

31 And He *said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.” (For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

Jesus said to the Apostles, to ' Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while." There were many people coming and going around Jesus when the apostles had returned it would seem from the text, so much so that they did not even have time to eat.

32 They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.

So they all went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.

Five Thousand Fed
33 The people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.

The people seen Jesus and his apostles leaving, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.

So the people were intruding on their time together they recognized meaning to fully become acquainted with who they were and many people who desired to seek them out ran together on foot from the surrounding cities and were able to get to the location that Jesus and His disciples were going before they arrived.

34 When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.

When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowed; all the multitude of people from the cities that had ran out to follow Jesus and the disciples. Jesus felt compassion for them because they were like sheep.

This word sheep is probaton; meaning someone easily lead. Some people were lead because of the good things of Jesus and the apostle; and some may have been led out of their own gain of what they could get by following Jesus because in this day in age the Jews were expecting a King to arrive who was going to be a Earthly Ruler. Though Jesus was not going to be like an Earthly Ruler in the aspect of looking back to King Herod.

So because of these people who ran along and seeking to be apart of Christ either with selflessness or selfishness. Jesus felt compassion for them because they were easily led, like sheep because they did not have someone to feed them; or a protector, a ruler of a flock of men/women.

35 When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said, “This place is desolate and it is already quite late;

It was getting quite late, and His disciples came to Jesus and said "This place is desolate and it is already getting late. They were in a desert.

36 send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

Send them away the disciples said to Jesus; so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.

So because of them being in a desolate placing knowing that there was little to eat out here in this desert. They ask Jesus to send the large number of people to the countryside and villages so that they may be able to buy themselves something to eat.

They are showing concern for the peoples health and well being.

37 But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they *said to Him, “Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?”

Then Jesus told them. You give them something to eat.

They said to Jesus; Shall we go and spend to hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?

Thinking about this could you imagine hearing this if you were there along with the Apostles in a desolated wasteland. Jesus tells you ; You feed them. What would your reaction be? Would it be just as the apostles? My guess is that we would all respond the same way.

This miracle that is about to happen was a real physical miracle that we can learn about now in a spiritual sense as we go along.

It unrealized what is about to happen and they did not believe that they had the ability to feed all of these people that were with them. The unrealized realization was that of the Power of Christ.

38 And He *said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!” And when they found out, they *said, “Five, and two fish.”

Jesus said to the disciples. "How many loaves do you have? Go look. And when they found out they said Five and two fish.

So they have brought enough food to share with themselves incase they had gotten hungry that have not yet spoiled or had become useless. Also thinking about this as human beings we like to have food because it nourishes our body and helps give us strength in consuming it regardless if it is meat, fruits, or herbs.

The true nourishment comes from Christ the Vine ; Right?

39 And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.

Then Jesus commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.

40 They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.

The disciples helped the to put the groups in hundreds and fifties.

41 And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them; and He divided up the two fish among them all.

Jesus took the five loaves and the two fish of material nutrition and looking up toward the heaven.

This word heaven is ouranos; in the greek; which has two meanings (A) the visible heavens, the atmosphere, the sky, the starry heavens, (B) the spiritual heavens.

In the greek it says Jesus spoke a blessing : eulogeo; meaning to speak well of; bless, blessed, eulogeo means to speak (reason) which confers benefit, hence, bless.

Jesus spoke a blessing over the food and broke the loaves. Then gave them to His disciples to set before the people; and He divided up the two fish among them all.

Here we see Jesus power to multiply the food here to be divided up for all of these people out there in the wastelands with the disciples there setting out the food before the people; what a truly profound miracle.

42 They all ate and were satisfied,

All them there in the wasteland all ate, and were satisfied.
This a show casing of how we as believers can partake of the everlasting bread, and everlasting waters in the spiritual sense and be satisfied for Christ is our daily bread, and everlasting waters that gives us drink when we are thirsty so we do not get weary.

43 and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.

The disciples picked up twelve full baskets afterwards of the broken pieces, and also of the fish; there was so much left over from this miracle that 12 baskets were full each one for the 12 disciples.

Could you imagine the immense pressure the disciples had felt during this time of watching Jesus do this in front of their very own eyes.

44 There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.

According to this account and believe Luke and Matthew Five thousand people were filled that day who had the loaves of bread. Talk about superabudance.
