Each of the writers used the events of Jesus' life and ministry and His words as the source materials for their Gospels. They all draw from the same well.

Mathew. an apostle, did walk with Jesus. Mark may have; and Luke (who may also have been a disciple of Jesus) states: "Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word; It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus, That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed. (Luke 1:1-4 KJV)

They wouldn't have had to walk "side by side" to have "perfect understanding of all things from the very first."

John, in his gospel, addresses the issue of Jesus' deity and uses events and comments of Jesus which support it.

Luke was not an apostle.

Also, none of the Gospels in the MSS that have reached us had a title such at 'The Gospel according to Matthew'. That was added later.

Each Gospel had a different purpose but Luke tells us how he came to write his Gospel in Luke 1:1-4 (ESV):

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught.

Luke wanted to write an 'orderly account' that he sent to Theophilus in order that this disciple 'may have certainty' about the things he had been taught.
