For over a decade, allegations that Rep. Ilhan Omar committed immigration fraud were treated like political gossip, whispered in Minnesota circles, published on a few blogs, and dismissed by Omar with a shrug and a press statement. A probe during the first Trump administration came up short. Insufficient evidence. Case stalled.
Then, on October 12th, Homeland Security agents walked out of Omar’s Washington, D.C., bungalow carrying boxes stamped “Seized Property Evidence.” A federal judge had signed the warrant. This wasn’t theater – it was probable cause, sanctioned by the judiciary.
So what changed? Three letters: D-N-A.
Federal investigators now believe DNA evidence can prove the central allegation that has trailed Omar since 2016: that she married her own brother, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, in 2009 to help him obtain a green card.

People familiar with the years-long criminal probe said the feds have made use of whistleblowers, government records and now obtained DNA in an effort to substantiate decade-old allegations that Omar – and possibly members of her family like her father – defrauded immigration authorities.
The surrounding details don’t do Omar any favors. Elmi applied for a marriage-based green card but quietly withdrew the application in 2019 when immigration officials requested additional documentation. Not exactly the move of someone with nothing to hide.
Meanwhile, Omar filed joint taxes with a different man, Ahmed Hirsi, in 2014 and 2015 – while still legally married to Elmi. Her father used multiple surnames, one of which was “Nur Said Elmi Mohamed.”
Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani explained that charges would likely come as a conspiracy, which allows prosecutors to allege acts outside the statute of limitations. Two sources told the Post the accumulated evidence now provides a solid basis to bring charges before a grand jury.
Border czar Tom Homan stated the feds have built “a strong case.” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, running a parallel financial investigation into tens of millions in unexplained discrepancies on Omar’s House disclosures, put it simply: “If there was a crime committed, it will be prosecuted.”
Omar’s defense attorneys are crying political retribution, and they want every scrap of seized evidence returned. They insist there’s “no legitimate basis” for questioning her citizenship. The DOJ’s response was blunt, calling their letter “riddled with false allegations and inaccuracies.”
Let me be direct: Millions of immigrants have stood in line, filled out every form honestly, and waited years to earn their place in this country the right way. If a sitting congresswoman gamed the very system those people respected, investigating her isn’t persecution. It’s the bare minimum.
Stripping a member of Congress of her citizenship would be unprecedented. But apparently, so is the evidence.
DNA doesn’t retain defense attorneys. It doesn’t draft letters to the DOJ or call press conferences. It just sits there, telling the truth. If it confirms what investigators believe, this goes beyond scandal.
It becomes a historic reckoning – one that’s been deferred for a decade. And I don’t care what letter sits next to your name. Nobody holds office above the law.
