My personal views on forgiveness and confessing sin has progressively changed over the years. I now simply thank god for His ONCE FOR ALL forgiveness...past, present and future sins. I no longer say in my prayers "please forgive me for this or that sin"...I just repent and thank him for His forgiveness...He died for ALL sin...once for all. He knows when we are truly repentant weather we say it or not. I no longer constantly say OH PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR -that unkind thought, that sin of omission etc.......I have come to realize that is madness IMHO. We are ALWAYS in fellowship with Him, even when we sin...speaking of sin...we, as we grow in Him, we will sin less and less as we come to see sin as He does and pray to hate it as much as He does. I say, we simply agree with God that we are sinners, repent and believe in the assurance of my salvation. We are already a FORGIVEN PEOPLE! We need only to repent sincerely. My prayers on this subject have gradually changed...I no longer ask for His forgiveness, He has already given it to me and I thoroughly believe that my sins ARE forgiven already. I simply repent and say WOW and THANK YOU LORD!
He died once for all, it worked...It seems we crucify Him again and again when we do not receive His once for all forgiveness....repentance, faith, trust and most of all relationship is what He wants from us. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. <---- a one time occurrence...IMHO
What are your thoughts on this?
May God Bless you abundantly!

Hmm, not a very popular subject--I'm gonna guess that most of my new friends on here do not agree? If not, why not? Repentance and sorrow to me go hand in hand, how can there really be repentance without real sorrow? I will immediately tell Him how sorry I am and thank Him for His for His FINISHED work on the cross. IMHO-If you are NOT truly sorry for hurting Him because of your sin, then you are not a true repentant. Or, babe in Christ, or just an un-saved person.

I will try to come up with a good thread...one day!! lol

I have recently come to understand that "repentance" means two different things at two different stages of our life.

One: When we are still in the world, "repentance" is a straight-forward DECISION to realize whatever we had been depending upon will not give us Salvation. We make a conscious DECISION to trust in Jesus instead. A show of sorrow is not so much always a part of this. In truth, the Jews Jesus asked to REPENT were not living a life that they needed to be ashamed of or sorry for. Most were pious, God-fearing people, living life as God commanded.

Two: Having become "Christians" we do need to be disappointed in ourselves (sorrowful, if you need to hear it that way) for failing God in our actions or thoughts, and turn from (repent of) that behavior or thinking.

But, for the most part, "sorrow" is pretty much something the church has promoted — especially the Catholic church — as a reason (or a means) to stay "faithful." Jesus was ALWAYS talking, instead, about our "JOY."

No I don't disagree at all. :)
Willie mentioned repentance...and we know that repent means to change the mind, turn.
I agree with you..I do not wallow before the Lord because of this that or the other...I tend to get before Him and praise him for all that He is , has done, and is doing!
There are too many people and issues to pray for, rather than get bog down with me, me, me, and hunt for short falls in my own life.
I don't say to my husband at the end of every evening. " Have I been been good?" "What have I done wrong today" "Have I sinned against anyone?"

No, we get together and he says..." So what and who are we praying for tonight?"

I agree, once and for all...means ONCE!! :)

Indeed Helen, so good to see spouses seeking Him together! And, yes there are always those we need to pray for. It's easy to pray without ceasing!!! The only thing I seem to pray for myself personally any more, is to deeply desire to do His will!!!
Also, how many sins had we committed at the time of His death...zero. Once-For-All...Praise God for the finished work of the Cross!!!

The verse you have quoted says the OPPOSITE OF one-time forgiveness.

When a sinner comes to the Savior with genuine repentance and faith, all of his or hers sins until that time are forgiven. This is a one-time event for salvation.

At the same time saints do sin after they have been saved, so 1 John 1 & 2 addresses the issue of our present sins. Scripture says that Christians must examine themselves all the time, and particularly before partaking of the Lord's Supper. So we are definitely required to confess, repent, and ask forgiveness for our present sins.

One should study 1 John 1 & 2 together and understand that John is addressing the children of God, and how their fellowship is affected by their present sins.

It's easy to pray without ceasing!!!
Easy when we surrender it all to Him! Otherwise it is impossible. People often find themselves in the middle of the road, sometimes praying, sometimes cursing... not a good place to be:

"I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth." Rev 3:15-16

"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Matt 11:28-30

Yes amadeus, I agree with all of that.
I should have expounded on that. My point was that there are ALWAYS people, situations...to be prayed about. Back in the 90's while still sucking my thumb, I thought it impossible!!!! Lol...God has brought me a long ways, Praise His ALMIGHTY NAME!

Praying with out ceasing is also much easier when we let God do the praying through us...and we speak His language, and in doing that, we know that whatever the prayer need is..and whatever the deeper details that we in our own hearts do not know...because we do not have "all wisdom" except in the "all wisdom who abides within"....so , we let go, and let God's Spirit speak the words, and His words hit the mark spot on...

ALL prayer is effective in the mouth of the righteous, which we have been made through Jesus Christ.
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."

Many of my without ceasing "prayers" are nothing more than " Oh Lord" which comes out more as a continual groan rather than in words.

My two cents. :)
