Israel and the Iranian Threat: A Prophetic Perspective

by: Mike Wingfield Listen to Audio Here

Israel is finally delivering a devastating blow to the nuclear Iranian threat. For decades, Israel has listened to the belligerent calls for their destruction coming from the radical Islamic regime in Iran. During this same time, Iran planted radical terrorist proxy elements along Israel’s northern and southern borders. Hamas and Hezbollah, along with other Islamic groups, were trained and funded by Iran. Their goal was to bring about the annihilation of Israel, and their intentions were made clear during the barbaric Hamas invasion of Israel on October 7, 2023.

In the early hours of June 13, Israel began “Operation Rising Lion.” The Israeli attacks on Iran are ongoing. This operation was meticulously planned by the Israeli intelligence agencies and military leadership. The precision and success of the initial strikes stunned the world.

Israel has declared that this operation will continue until its objectives are achieved. The IDF has already inflicted major damage on Iran’s military infrastructure. Nuclear facilities have been obliterated, military leaders eliminated, nuclear scientists assassinated, and other key installations destroyed. Iran's military was embedded within the civilian population of Tehran, putting millions at risk.

Despite international pressure, Iran refuses to abandon its nuclear ambitions. The destruction of Iran’s nuclear program is shifting the power balance in the Middle East. For years, Shiite Iran has been a threat to the Sunni nations of the Persian Gulf. Iran’s defeat could prompt more Sunni states to join the Abraham Accords and normalize relations with Israel. This move brings the region closer to the prophesied false covenant with the Antichrist.

Iran’s allies—Russia, Turkey, and China—have condemned Israel’s actions. This response aligns with the prophetic coalition described in Ezekiel 38, the Gog and Magog war. The stage is being set. Based on the timeline of end-time events, this invasion may occur just before or after the Rapture of the church.

Jeremiah 49:34–39 offers prophetic insight about Iran, known in ancient times as Elam. God declares that He will “break the bow of Elam,” destroy its leaders, and scatter its people among the nations. These verses describe disaster, defeat, and dispersion—likely a result of nuclear contamination. This would trigger international displacement and set the stage for the Ezekiel 38 invasion, as a remnant of evil joins with Russia and Turkey against Israel. Eventually, a godly remnant from Iran will return to serve the Lord in His Millennial Kingdom (Jeremiah 49:38–39).

Friends, what we are witnessing in this war is forming the very coalition of Ezekiel 38. It is establishing the environment for the rise of the Antichrist and his base of operations in the Middle East.

The fireworks leading to the Tribulation are igniting right before our eyes.

Be ready for the shout that will take us out!

Oh yes, of course! The moment Iran sneezes and Russia nods, suddenly everyone’s shouting, “Gog and Magog! It’s here! It’s now!” Because obviously, Ezekiel was just waiting on CNN’s Middle East headlines to be fulfilled, right?

Let’s get real.

The obsession with newspaper theology has gotten so bad, people are treating Ezekiel like it’s some sort of geopolitical horoscope. But maybe, just maybe, God was talking about something far more serious than oil pipelines, missile deals, or purely hatred of the nation Israel — something like the spiritual invasion of false brethren that the New Testament repeatedly warns us about.

Revelation 8 isn’t describing mushroom clouds over Tel Aviv — it’s divine judgment within the house of God. You want to see Gog and Magog? Try looking inside today’s churches, not across the Iranian border. Those armies are spiritual — wolves in sheep’s clothing, peddlers of half-truths, and prosperity prophets who wouldn’t know the Gospel if it bit them.

And while we’re at it — Ezekiel 38 isn’t a role call for end-times NATO. It’s a symbolic portrayal of the final satanic push against the true people of God, wherever they are. The battlefield? Not somewhere in northern Israel — but the pulpits, the pews, and the hearts of men. Paul didn’t tell the Ephesians to put on armor for a skirmish with Persia and big red Russia — he told them we wrestle “not against flesh and blood” (Eph. 6:12). But never mind that — it’s more fun to map prophecy with Google Earth and act like every Middle East headline is a trumpet blast. Too easy for you, without having spiritual discernment, eh?

The real deception is this: Satan doesn’t need tanks and treaties to pull off Gog and Magog. All he needs is a comfortable, sleepy congregation, unsealed hearts, and a preacher who quotes Fox News more than Scripture.

So keep watching the Middle East if you want. But don’t be surprised when the real invasion comes through the church doors, which I believe is taking place right now, — not through the desert. Selah!
