Are parables historical facts. Thank you.lforrest said:In the parable of the lost sheep Jesus leaves the many to go after the one that was lost. Following the parable he gave instructions for Godly discipline. What did he say to do with those who were obstinate in their sin after rebuke?
My thought, is Jesus forgives believers that sin because we are stupid, like sheep. Our eyes see the green grass of temptation, and we start walking to it and ignore the pit.
But his sheep want to be saved, so when he comes near and rescues us we hear his voice we follow. That isn't to say we won't fall into the pit again, or another one. We are that stupid.
They are the words of Jesus and are true. I hold them of higher esteem than anything in a history book.ATP said:Are parables historical facts. Thank you.
So they do prove we can lose our salvation?lforrest said:They are the words of Jesus and are true. I hold them of higher esteem than anything in a history book.
They support personal perseverance and culpability. They support our ability to choose to walk in the light, or choose to walk away.ATP said:So they do prove we can lose our salvation?
Is it possible for a believer to ignore such a high calling from God, repentance and conviction as such. What are your thoughts on the power of the Holy Spirit.lforrest said:They all three show a greater need for personal responsibility from the believer. By the context none of them are intended to refute Osas directly. But since Osas allows us to shrug off personal responsibility to repent I would say that concept is wrong.
Repentance signifies an act of our own volition. We are told to work out our own salvation. This does not demonstrate that there is anything in US that supersedes our will to either obey or not obey the Holy Spirit. People can be obedient and until the day they are not, and if you put enough of those days one in front of the other those people will become apostate and then walk away from God. Repentance is not repentance if we do not initiate it. The doctrine of perseverance does not exist in the scriptures and it is another fallacious dogma brought about by Cauvin's faulty assertions and understanding of scripture.ATP said:Is it possible for a believer to ignore such a high calling from God, repentance and conviction as such. We who believe in the doctrine of the perseverance of the saints in no way profess a dead faith, nor are we antinomians...yet when it comes to soteriology we do believe we are saved through the belief of the death of Jesus Christ for our sins and His resurrection. This is the entirety of the gospel for salvation.
What we believe about works is it is the natural progression and out working of being born again. These works do nothing to secure or maintain our salvation. These works are accredited to God as working in and through us.
We do not believe that sin will disqualify any born again believer for the free gift of salvation. All sin is deliberate, yet repentance is the natural working of God in us through the conviction He places on us. We believe as His children we are chastised but not condemned.
The Holy Spirit does not force us to do anything, the choice to obey is in our hands.ATP said:Is it possible for a believer to ignore such a high calling from God, repentance and conviction as such. What are your thoughts on the power of the Holy Spirit.

It's impossible to stop believing when we've been baptized into Christ's death.lforrest said:The Holy Spirit does not force us to do anything, the choice to obey is in our hands.
If some day you stopped believing would you still be saved?
Agreed about works, but repentance is not a work.
NOT what the Bible teaches.ATP said:It's impossible to stop believing when we've been baptized into Christ's death.
