Isaiah 53:4-5 says: “…by His stripes we are healed.” These are two Bible verses that many people today quote to receive healing from God. Since Isaiah was a prophet, he knew about the atonement (Salvation & Healing) Jesus would do for all of mankind. There are many other healing verses in the Old Testament. It seems all these healing verses were written to the Jewish people of the Old Testament.

How do we know these OT healing verses are on-going and applicable to non-Jewish people of today?

All OT verses are still applicable. We just add the good news of the cross to their application.

There is a strong argument for the prophets and apostles being the last men of great power from God. No Christian today has a shadow that heals people or prophecies on par with Daniel or Isaiah. Not suggesting we are ''less powerful / God is partial with us''. I think the argument is along the lines of the Red sea parting.... Why hasn't anyone done it since Moses? Perhaps because it is not needed....there is a time and place for everything.

Healing verses are on going because God can / desires to look after His people John 9:31. This of course does not ever mean we have the power to heal or can expect healing all the time. From day 1 to now, it is always according to God's will.

i find it blessed that i am reminded of an island in indonesia that had a tsunami hit it and wiped out nearly everything on the island but the church and the surrounding area. we found out afterwards that christians gathered around the church and were praying for safety when the tsunami hit the christians there told of a miracle where the tsunami split and hit the island but didn't touch the church or the surrounding area even though they watched it go over their heads.

the part where the prophets and the apostles where basically the last men of great power from God i was reminded of a question someone asked me. they asked me why do you think that God's great power seemed to disappear between about 200 ad to about the 1800s. the reason he told me was that during that time the church labelled people who used God's power as outcasts, extremists, heretics, and ect. later on christians who used the power of God became labeled as witches by the church itself and were killed. also anyone who did not believe as the main stream church did were killed, persecuted, and/or jailed. even i would probably be quiet about my usage of God's power to avoid being persecuted, jailed or even killed. if i would remain quiet in a time like that then there are probably many back then that believed the same way. what would you of done if you lived during those times?

also to believe things happen according to God's will in order to be healed is usually told by people who don't believe we can heal others. people who don't believe healing is for today usually have tried at some point to pray for healing but have not been successful in getting what they asked for start to claim that it must not be God's will. if it is not God's will to heal everyone then it must mean that God wanted someone to be crippled or die and ect. but if that is true then Jesus sinned by being in rebellion to the Father because Jesus went about healing ALL those afflicted of diseases or death or anything else that the Father gave to each of them for a reason. it sounds stupid and yet that is what you are saying when you claim that God must not will for us to be healed.

God bless

That's very interesting 7angels. I am not going to disagree in the slightest with what you said bar the last paragraph (no surprise I am sure :p).

I am a great man of faith. I believe that when I pray, God hears and acts on my request immediately. I really do have that confidence. But here is the reality. My wife had a very bad condition that could not easily be treated. We prayed and within a weak before the next doctors appointment she was healed. My baby boy had a head condition from birth. We prayed, but nothing happened. We saw the hand of God on him though in how he was miraculously moved forward on a long waiting list for an op. The operation was successful and today he is all good.

As children of God we should not even need to ask for healing. God knows to look after us. Which means if we are not healed, there is a very high chance of God trying to teach us something. Being in sin, becoming prideful, God wanting to test us like Job are all valid reasons for possible illnesses. Think about it. This is the 'last' time God will ever be able to 'trial' us. His testing of us of course is always 100% to our benefit. Imagine how deep a relationship Job has with God right now and for eternity. God trusts Job much more then you or I...for all eternity.

All we can say with confidence is that one-day when we are sitting with God in heaven having tea and scones, we will fully grasp His reasons for all He did and we will worship Him for being good.

I do respect the fact though that some Christians are so full of faith that they expect to see healing every-time. That is good. We must always expect it. But we need to mature and know that God is always good, even if X does not happen according to our expectations. We are an ant trying to grasp God of the universe.
