I'm not the one that builds up a faith that is laid down on a sand here.Acts 2:6 - Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.Acts 2:8 - And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?Acts 2:9-11 - Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.JagLovest thou in Christ Yahshua, Lord and Saviour of the world.
There are two types of tongues in the Bible. Those which are actual known tongues and those which unknown tongues. Speaking in known tongues has been talked about throughout this post. Besides this, Paul talks about speaking in tongues which are unknown to man. 1Corinthians 14:1-4 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.Paul is not talking about a known tongue here. He is talking about the tongues which are not known to man. They are between the person saying them and God. In verse 14 Paul says that if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. On the day of Pentecost we see people speaking in comprehensible languages to minister to those people of other languages. Later we see Paul talking about praying in the spirit in another type of tongue, a prayer language. These are the tongues which are being argued about. Paul refers to them in 1Corinthians 13 verse 1 again when he says I speak with the tongues of men and of angels. In chapter 12 verse 28 he talks about spiritual gifts and talks about diversities of tongues. Paul also explains how tongues were to be used in worship. 1Corinthians 14 beginning with verse 26 explains this. 1Corinthians 14: 26-28 How is it then brethren? When ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. But if there be no interpreter; let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. Further down in 39-40 Paul says; Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak in tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order. Again, the Bible talks about two types of tongues. Those which are actual known tongues, and those which are an unknown spiritual language between that person and God. The first type is not really needed anymore because there are Christians in every nation who already know the language to minister to people. But the other type is still here. Just like gifts of prophesy, healing, interpretation and all the other spiritual gifts that God promises to anyone who will RECEIVE them.
