Actually the above is not true, as it is the previous verse which makes reference to a person shaving off their beard or trimming it. The verse after it speaks of making our daughters prostitutes.
Leviticus 19:23-37: - 23 'When you come into the land, and have planted all kinds of trees for food, then you shall count their fruit as uncircumcised. Three years it shall be as uncircumcised to you. It shall not be eaten. 24 But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, a praise to the Lord. 25 And in the fifth year you may eat its fruit, that it may yield to you its increase: I am the Lord your God.
26 'You shall not eat anything with the blood, nor shall you practice divination or soothsaying. 27 You shall not shave around the sides of your head, nor shall you disfigure the edges of your beard. 28 You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.
29 'Do not prostitute your daughter, to cause her to be a harlot, lest the land fall into harlotry, and the land become full of wickedness.
30 'You shall keep My Sabbaths and reverence My sanctuary: I am the Lord.
31 'Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the Lord your God.
32 'You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord.
33 'And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God.
35 'You shall do no injustice in judgment, in measurement of length, weight, or volume. 36 You shall have honest scales, honest weights, an honest ephah, and an honest hin: I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
37 'Therefore you shall observe all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them: I am the Lord.'"
The question is, if we are going to be disciples unto the Lord/Christ, then why would we deliberately get Tattoos?
It is better to write the law in the flesh of our hearts as the Lord said He would do to Israel when He renews His Covenant of a Kingdom of priests, a Holy Nation and His Possession among the Nations when He redeems them, than to have them written onto our hides.
This is what God has said of His ordinances: -
Jeremiah 31:31-36 - The remaking of the Covenant with the Israelites after they are redeemed.
31 "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah —
32 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the Lord. 33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord:
I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says the Lord. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more."
35 Thus says the Lord,
Who gives the sun for a light by day,
The ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night,
Who disturbs the sea,
And its waves roar
(The Lord of hosts is His name):
36 "If those ordinances depart
From before Me, says the Lord,
Then the seed of Israel shall also cease
From being a nation before Me forever."
Farouk, what is your purpose in pushing this poll of yours, re tattoos? Is it to encourage people to deliberately sin against God?
Is it not better to live our lives such that people can see our hearts than to demonstrate that we have no regard for the living and have that plastered all over our bodies and not keep what we have had written on our hides.
