The debt has been my singular political issue since high school. No one from either party wants to look at this.
BTW, since high school, I learned there is an even biggest problem, which is called UNFUNDED LIABILITIES. It is the sum of all future spending not covered by expected future revenue. This number is about $127T, whereas the debt is "only" $39T. So, unfunded liabilities is about 3x bigger than the debt.
We could eliminate unfunded liabilities if we had the political will to do so, such as eliminate social security, medicare, pensions, and of course, dramatic reductions in military spending. Interest on the debt is now the 4th biggest line item in the budget and is expected to soon surpass military spending.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The tax assessor for Marshall County, Mississippi, was indicted by a federal grand jury for alleged fraud related to COVID-19 and disaster relief funds.
Records indicate Barbara Belfoure was arrested Thursday. She has a $10,000 bond.
The indictment on two counts of wire fraud was returned last week.
Belfoure is accused of being involved in a scheme to defraud the federal government of money related to the government’s Paycheck Protection Program and Economic Injury Disaster Relief program, according to the indictment.
An exact dollar amount was not included in the indictment, and Belfoure’s alleged role in the scheme was not specified.

Three West Tennessee residents accused of fraudulently billing the federal government $28.7 million for invalid prescription medication they never dispensed were part of a nationwide health care fraud crackdown announced Monday.
The owners of a Memphis-based health clinic MedPartners and SarJo Pharmacy purported to treat injured United States Postal Service employees, billing the cost of medications to the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA), according to an indictment filed June 12.
But the medication was never prescribed to patients, and the majority of the medications were not carried in stock by the pharmacy. About 500 of the 4,052 claims billed by SarJo Pharmacy between August 2018 and August 2021 were for drugs that were never actually manufactured or available to be purchased, the indictment states.
Collierville residents Kossie Lamon Simmons, 59, and Katina Marzie Simmons, 48, face charges of health care fraud and conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, alongside 47-year-old Memphis resident Tritia Margalizita Townsend, who served as SarJo Pharmacy’s pharmacist in charge.
Between August 2018 and December 2021, FECA paid the pharmacy about $16.3 million.
“Kossie, Katina and Townsend personally profited from their participation in the scheme by receiving fraud proceeds for the personal use and benefit of themselves and others,” the indictment states.
The trio are among 324 defendants facing charges as part of the U.S. Department of Justice’s 2025 National Health Care Fraud Takedown, according to Interim U.S. Attorney Joseph C. Murphy, Jr. The operation targeted those with alleged involvement in health care fraud and illegal drug diversion schemes throughout the United States.

There appears to be a plan forming which involves growing US productivity using mass adoption of AI to grow us out of the debt.
And also cutting interest rates a lot to lessen the debt payments the US government has to payout to maintain the debt, cause your right, the debt is not dropping, the interest paid on the debt is becoming to high. Musk has said the changes are going to be extreme over the next 10 years. And could involve the federal government paying everyone working or not a minimum income.
That would include depreciating the value of currency, the US dollar will fall, while assets other than money will go much higher.
Meaning people who rely on interest income from bank accounts are going to hurt worse than they are, while company market investments will skyrocket. Money will become less relevant.
FED in the future will abandon it's 2% annual inflation goal.
Musk has said AI will do everything people can do a lot faster and more accurately. People will not have to work 5 days or more per week.
If money becomes irrelevant, then so does debt.
If you are a fan of StarTrek, the earth of that scifi time have a similar kind of future to that regarding money and debt.

When AI and robotics, like Tesla's Optimus, eliminate all work and money, the government should hand out a universal income, Musk told Joe Rogan in October.
That income shouldn't just be a universal basic income — it should be a universal high income, he said.
"We'll have, in a benign scenario, universal high income," Musk said. "Anyone can have any products or services that they want. But there will be a lot of trauma and disruption along the way."
After describing the future irrelevance of money at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum, Musk ribbed his panelmate, Nvidia's Huang.
"By the way, the Nvidia earnings call is today," Musk said. Nvidia will report its third-quarter earnings after the closing bell.
"Since currency is irrelevant…," Huang said.
