Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though they could by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Scripture is putting forth that not pursuing righteousness by faith, but by thinking one can achieve the same by self effort is that which causes one to stumble… This same stumbling is spoken of elsewhere in scripture as the ‘offense of the cross’… And again this same truth is put forth when Paul was accused of preaching a Gospel of ‘let us do evil that good may come’… For these are the efforts of the self life trying to understand something of God.. Not knowing that unless faith is that that reaches out towards God, the self life will be what try’s to reach out towards God…
Human understanding accused Paul of preaching a Gospel of let us do evil that good may come… Human understanding was offended by the cross of Christ… Human understanding thought it could achieve by its own efforts what alone faith could produce…
These are examples of the self life getting involved in what is not in its purview, where faith alone is that that can reach out to God and touch Him… Thereby does the efforts of self become a stumbling stone, the cross an offense, the Gospel misunderstood… For not pursuing God by faith alone produces all these adverse effects in life, which they can not help but produce, for they are the natural effects of the works of the life of self….
Pursuing God by faith alone is that which bypasses this stumbling stone, this being offended, this misunderstanding of what the Gospel is…. For the Gospel is a trusting in God by faith, a trusting in God to form Christ in one, a trusting in God to grow the new birth in one, a trusting in God to manifest the Divine nature in one… All these are pointing to the same truth, that being, the Life of Christ really and truly coming to life in one, that being that life that sins not, that being what faith in God alone can produce…
For the heart either is reaching out to God in faith or it isn’t, the fruit of that faith or lack of the fruit of that faith will be the Christ being seen in one or not… For unless it is a work of faith, it is a work of self, the proof being the Christ that is formed in the life, that which work can be seen and tasted in life by another… Christ or self, faith or self effort, all things falling into one of these two…
For the Gospel of faith is a real faith that reaches out after a real God so that He may really a truly grow the new life, this new birth that sins not in one… If this life that sins not is not being brought to life, the stumbling stone has been stumbled over, self effort has the rule in life, and self will be what one knows till the faith of the heart turns to God and steadfastly maintains that faith… Christ in one will be understood in word only, an impossible knot to untie, till the self life ceases its own effort to serve God and by the faith of the heart alone reaches out after God and refuses to let Him go till He makes one a new creation, created in righteousness, by righteousness, for righteousness….
For all the pursuing of God but by faith, is jumping on the hamster wheel, proud of one’s own efforts, thinking one is moving, but not, just spinning the wheel till futility sets in, and the eyes of faith turn Heavenward....
Be blessed in pursuing God by faith and receiving the growing of the new life that sins not….
I believe one of the best ways to pursue the Lord is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:17: "Pray constantly." And I think it would be true to say that prayer is more listening than speaking. You can't learn anything by speaking, though part of the learning process is asking the Lord questions.
Thank you for putting forth out of your relationship with Him…
Be so very blessed in the experiencing of that relationship…
This is quite phenomenal sir. It’s exquisite actually.
I’m being picky here, or maybe not, but…I think the word faith has been so muddied and confused that people do not understand what it means any more. It means trust God. I don’t even like to use the word faith any more because of how men have contorted it. I just say trust now rather than faith. You go back and forth, using them interchangeably, and I think if people understand faith means trust, they’d be helped along more quickly rather than get mired down.
It’s like…
Whatever is not of faith is sin. It’s become so muddied by men. If it was said whatever is not of trusting God is sin, I think it’s better. Then a verse could be simply examined by the man, like…do not worry what you will eat or wear, do not worry about where you will get money for these things, God knows what you have need of and will supply your needs. The man could say, but…I’m constantly in worry about these things and that worry is the opposite of trusting what God has said…so…I’m not really in trust (faith.)
But as it is currently, men have confused and taken it away from its simplicity.
@stunnedbygrace…
Hi and thank you,,,, I think it is impossible to be freed from the stamp of men that will argue over words that are to portray a certain truth…
Therefore each believer needs to be true to their own peace of Christ, for when one believer goes this way, another will say that way is better.
So as long as one’s peace of Christ in their heart trusts Christ to manifest life, life will be manifested…
Be blessed in manifesting the life He has brought to life in you..
I believe it is important that our faith as Christians is faith in Jesus Christ!!
So, what does having faith in Jesus Christ actually mean??
A couple of the names of the Lord we read about is "Word of God" and "I AM"
So, the Christ, our savior (Jesus), is the "Word of God" (the One who speaks to us), and He is the "I AM" (always with us).
Therefore having faith means believing that our Lord Jesus Christ is always with us and is there to hear from and get instructions from as our "Lord"!
It is our hearing by faith (our belief that He is always with us) that saves us. That is what we mean by saying faith saves us.
Too often I see Christians who do not actually 'pursue' what the Lord has to say to them via their faith!
And so, our pursuit of the Lord by faith means actually hearing what our Lord Jesus Christ has to personally say to us!
I'm starting to get it. By faith, Peter walked on water. But it wasn't Peter's power that kept him up, it was faith in the One bidding him to walk.
So it is with our walk with God in overcoming sin. God promises a way of escape from temptation and we take the way out by faith.
@Wynona I like how 'looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith' in Hebrews 12.2 comes following all the examples of OT saints' faith in Hebrews 11... :)
Made me smile, for when one learns that faith alone is the ticket… Christ, and Christ alone awaits…
Keep pressing in, for joy and peace and a rest in Him, are the rewards of those that do…
