So recently, my favorite bible teacher suggested to read the Scriptures out loud to overcome sin. Especially James, 1 John, and 1 Peter.

I wanted to see if it worked. And at first, I still struggled. But now for about a week and a half Ive been able to overcome my temptation to look at pornography.

Before, I would try to resist and fail. But now...how do I explain...the temptation still has cropped up, but I find that I take the promised "way of escape" more. I just go to sleep.

Romans 10:17 mentions faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the Word of God, so I want to see if others will give it a try for dealing with sins they want to stop, no matter what sins they are.

If you care about people at all....
Find out what happens to people involved with producing porn...especially the women.

Do you want to have anything to do with that?
Where people are objects like furniture or a bracelet? Good for nothing except as a receptacle for lust.

True, although literature can be porn and that's what got me started.

I have stopped looking at it and want to stay that way for good. So no, I don't want anything to do with it. I thought that was clear in the post I made.

Edit: Sorry for my tone, I feel like I misread your intentions with the post.

This I will do, and why did you choose those 3 books Wynona? I have a brother who struggles with this, he no longer goes online unless absolutely necessary. Bless you for keeping at it sister. I have zero desire for any of that, lol but I DO lose patience with myself everyday which is caused by frustration and turns into anger :( I hate it with a passion! Will give these particular books a shot. Just finished the Gospels so, this is good timing!

I understand....sokay....
I'm not admonishing you or chastising you.
Im trying to give you and others reading this some tools. Because porn is addictive and progressive.

There's some youtube videos all in black and white....
People discuss their history and some have idea as to why it was bad or wrong or why they got into the industry.
I found it so sad. Some were sold as slaves, some were sexually abused, and some just emotionally abused and manipulated.

It's not literature.
Just raw stories....They break your heart.

Go on a computer free holiday. My computer is ten years old, when it craps out, I'm done. Computers are both good and bad. Facebook is evil, and instagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter), and tumblr. They just in bed with the devil. So why let the devil control you.

Those were just the three books suggested. But having read them each out loud, I have to say they are chock full of verses on righteous living. Great for overcoming temptation.

Are the vices of this world my business?

Porn use to be illegal in America. And like all prohibitions against vice, the black market was born and thrived.

I think the world is an example of what we can be without Christ.

The bible's prescription for people that can't abstain from sexual indulgence is marriage. I honestly believe short of that, nothing is effective for a human being unless you have some illness that removes your sexual drive or are taking some meds that remove it.

Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are OF GOOD REPORT; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise,THINK ON THESE THINGS.

We can become the things we think upon, for by the corruption of the mind a person acts out the thoughts of sin.
Therefore we must...
Romans 12:2-3 KJV
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the RENEWING of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Are you suggesting I have a problem with porn?

Honestly Satan doesn't have a problem hearing scripture or reciting it. So I don't see that there would be any benefit to speaking it outloud.

Sorry about the double quote. :Oh no:

I love what you had to say here:

"I think the world is an example of what we can be without Christ."

I totally agree with you here! I would go so far to even say the world is THE example of what we can be without Christ, no hope, no future, ultimately eternal death.
They call evil good and good evil.
I can't wait for "On earth as it is in heaven"! This world is backwards and totally opposed to ALL things Christ.

That's why it is so important to belong to a local body of believers, we need to pray for one another, strengthen one another, lift each other up. Addiction is a real thing, and it does affect many within the church.

Press on sister soldier! :dusted:coffee:

P.S.
That "Local body" can and IMHO would be even better in small home groups.

If you struggle with any sin, I do recommend hearing Scripture read out loud or reading it out loud (Romans 10:17).

Im not about controlling people so you don't have to do anything you don't want to do.

However, Satan isn't the one Im targetting. Its anyone who wants to overcome temptations of any kind in their life. Satan knows Scripture but a lot of times we as Christians do not. It's our minds that have to be renewed.

Yes I do something like that daily, I watch Catholic Mass. They have a bible reading. I also read the bible myself and pray on my knees in humility before God.

"Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near."
Revelation 1:3

I've heard this before, that reading/quoting scripture aloud is somehow beneficial to the reader and those around them, of course...but even alone. Not sure the reason why. Shrug :)

Blessings in Christ Jesus to all. I will share a thing I have learned along the way. I have tested it long ago and found it to be true. The enemy studies all of us to find out our weaknesses. And we all have them. For most, one of his soldiers could be in the same room as us with out us even knowing it. But there is a gift given to The Body, to discern the enemy and The Presence of The Lord. What the enemy does when one of his are close(for he knows you can not perceive him) is take that weakness(temptation) and amplify it. Changing a mole hill into a mountain. And then we act on it and sin. He uses lust, fear, anger, regret, anxiety, intrusive thoughts and many other things to make us doubt or sin. Now one day long ago, I put this to the test. I had one thought and it started to increase and increase. I perceived the visitor in the room, but I played dumb. This particular thought was lustful. And this small thought(molehill) little by little turned into a mountain. I was sitting on that chair burning. And then as it was at it's worst, these words left my lips, The Lord rebukes you, The Lord Jesus rebukes you. At those words the visitor left the room. Little by little the mountain turned back into a mole hill. When we read The Bible out loud it is heard by us, The enemy when one is close, and always by The Lord. What the enemy does not want us to know is The Power and Authority we have in Jesus Name by way of The Holy Spirit within us. When we proclaim The Word of God out loud with faith, the same is true, we hear it, the enemy hears it if he is close, and of course The Lord hears it and smiles. Paul said, "we are not ignorant of his devises." And this is one of them not widely known. Oops LOL!

I appreciate this. God's Word read out loud absolutely has power over the enemy!
