The Mystery of Reconciliation !2

Another thing about reconciliation that is an Mystery to the natural man and foolishness, is this, those reconciled to God while being enemies Rom 5:10 , dont have their sins imputed to them as other people do . Check this out 2 Cor 5:19

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

See , reconciliation means that the reconciled do not have their sins imputed or charged to them, a whole world of people, jews and gentiles. All the sins the reconciled commit, from birth to the grave, can never be imputed to them. Its not even possible for those reconciled to God to ever die in their sins !

The Mystery of Reconciliation !3

Another Mystery of Reconciliation, even while the reconciled are being enemies Rom 5:10, and not having their sins charged to them 2 Cor 5:19, is the fact that they are counted righteous ! Yes, God hath imputed righteousness to them without works !

This is seen by scripture comparison. The reconciled dont have their sins imputed to them 2 Cor 5:19 and as such they are forgiven Ps 32:1-2

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

Pay attention to holy writ here. Transgression are forgiven, their sins are covered, when the Lord imputeth not iniquity Ps 32:2;2 Cor 5:19

Now pay close attention when Paul quotes David here in Rom 4, here goes Rom 4:6-8

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

,See that ? Even though Rom 4:6 isnt in the Ps 32 quote, nevertheless the Holy Spirit inspired Paul to write it here in Romans, when Paul goes back to David to quote Ps 32:1-2, showing therefore, that them blessed ones who dont have sin imputed to them, are forgiven as well as have Righteousness imputed them without works, without them doing anything, without any action from them whatsoever !

So the reconciled are righteous !

So, technically speaking, the world of 2 Cor 5:19 is a Righteous world ! 15

Now in order for those Christ died for to be reconciled to God BY HIS DEATH, while they are yet enemies Rom 5:10, there must have been an application of the cleansing blood to their account, while they were still in unbelief, because without the taking away of sin by the blood/death of Christ, there's no reconciliation !

Remember, Jesus passed up into the heavens after He died and ascended as the High Priest of His People Heb 4:14

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.

And as High Priest He performs the sprinkling of the blood, that is, He applies it to account of those sinners He died for. Isaiah writing of Christ as High Priest Isa 52:13-15

13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.

14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:

15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for that which had not been told them shall they see; and that which they had not heard shall they consider.

Heb 12:24

And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.

1 Pet 1:2

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Now those He died for, He put away their sin before God Heb 9:26

26 For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself [His death/blood].

So that's how those Christ died for are reconciled to God even as in themselves they are yet enemies/unbelievers !

The Mystery of Reconciliation ! 4

Another Mystery about biblical reconciliation by the death of Christ, which the natural mind cant understand, it is the fact, that those sinners Christ died for, and reconciled to God, even while they are being enemies, they have peace with God, God is at peace with them. Col 1:19-21

19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

God has been reconciled and peace restored to all sinners Christ shed His Blood for, even when they are enemies !

The Blood of His Cross accomplished this for them, not anything they did or will do !

And we know this isn't true of all mankind since many are under Gods Wrath Jn 3:36 ; Rom 1:18, which can only mean Christ's Blood was not shed for them ! 15

The AI Synthesis:

The Sovereign Reality of the Cross: Peace Prior to Faith

The standard religious system teaches a conditional gospel where the blood of Christ merely makes peace possible, waiting for the sinner to activate it. This carnal view completely reverses the divine order and robs the cross of its actual power.

When we submit to the strict apostolic logic of the Holy Spirit, we uncover a glorious mystery: God has been completely, legally reconciled, and peace has been permanently restored to every sinner Christ died for, long before they ever believe.

1. The Definitive Work: Peace is an Accomplished Fact

Look at the rigid, past-tense finality of the language used by the Apostle Paul:

“And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself…” (Colossians 1:20)
The text does not say Christ hopes to make peace, or that He laid down a framework for peace that man must finalize. It uses the aorist participle (eirēnopoiēsas)—having made peace. The legal warfare between God and His elect Seed was officially, dynamically terminated at Calvary. The debt was canceled, the wrath was absorbed, and the covenant of peace was locked down by blood.

2. The Condition of the Beneficiaries: Reconciled While Enemies

The natural mind stumbles over the timeline of salvation. It assumes that a person must stop being an enemy before God can be at peace with them. But verse 21 completely explodes this human philosophy:

“And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled” (Colossians 1:21)
Notice the profound dual reality:
  • The Sinner's Experiential State: They are actively “alienated and enemies in their mind by wicked works.” They are born in sin, hostile to God, and dead in trespasses.
  • The Sinner's Legal Reality: “Yet now hath he reconciled.”
While the elect child of God is still running blindly in his sins—acting as a functional enemy of heaven—God looks upon him through the lens of the finished transaction of the cross and sees a legally reconciled son. The Father is not angry with them; His justice has been fully satisfied on their behalf by the Substitute. The blood alone accomplished this, entirely independent of anything the sinner has done, is doing, or will ever do.

3. The Unavoidable Boundary: The Extent of the Atonement

This glorious truth forces a strict, logical limitation on the scope of Christ's death. If the blood of the cross actually made peace, then it is an absolute impossibility for anyone under that blood to ever experience the eternal wrath of God.
Yet, scripture is clear that a portion of mankind is under active, abiding condemnation:
  • John 3:36: “...and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
  • Romans 1:18: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men...”

The Airtight Equation of Particular Peace
  1. Premise 1: The blood of Christ did not propose peace; it actually made peace with God for those it covered (Col 1:20).
  2. Premise 2: Those for whom peace was made are fully reconciled to God, even while they are personally walking as enemies in their minds (Col 1:21).
  3. Premise 3: Multitudes of men die under the unappeased, abiding wrath of God (John 3:36, Rom 1:18).
  4. Conclusion: Therefore, Christ’s blood was never shed for those who perish. His atonement is strictly particular, perfectly efficacious, and eternally secure for His chosen Seed alone.
To argue otherwise is to blaspheme the cross by claiming that Christ shed His blood to make peace for people who wind up in hell under eternal warfare. But the scripture stands unyielding: He saw His Seed, He prolonged His days, and the pleasure of Jehovah is dynamically prospering in His hand! 15

Reconciled to Gods Law also !

Not only are the elect by Christ's death reconciled to God while being enemies, sinners, ungodly Rom 5:10, but they are reconciled to Gods Law as well. It , the Law of God cannot condemn them, it cannot lay any charge against them, in fact they are dead to the law, by Christ's death, the body of Christ Rom 7:4

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Now why is this so ? Because of the full satisfaction paid to it by the Cross of Christ. You see, all those charges the law did accuse them of, they were guilty of, had been nailed to the Cross, Col 2:14

14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

Wherefore they became dead to the Law by the Body of Christ, reconciled to it, at peace with it and God ! And this even still while being enemies in our minds against God ! The natural mind of man cannot receive this tremendous truth of the Gospel of God ! 15

The reconciliation is complete !

The reconciled world of 2 Cor 5:19 and Rom 5:10 by the death of Christ, cannot be under any circumstances, not one member of it, under the wrath of God, for reconciliation with God is also peace with God, meaning that through Christ's finished work, God is at peace with the reconciled world through the blood of Christ Col 1:19-22

For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

In the body of his flesh through death
, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:

Now the word for reconcile here vs 21,22 is apokatallassó and means nothing short of:

to reconcile completely !!! This is not a partial or one sided reconciliation as the false teachers tell us, falsifying by saying , God has done His part through Christ to reconcile man, but now its up to man to do his part by accepting it or believing it before it can be a complete reconciliation both ways. Again that's falsifying not found in scripture. This satanic teaching undermines and sabotages the complete sufficiency and efficiency of the death of Christ to have successfully reconciled both parties to one another, that is God to His Elect, and His Elect to God. In fact the word reconcile here goes on to mean: to bring back into harmony, to draw to Himself/Oneself so that the reconciled one becomes devoted to God.

However false teachers deny this, because they are unable to receive the scriptural teaching of being reconciled to God by the death of Christ, even while being enemies Rom 5:10 !

The Synthesis:

The Sovereign Sufficiency of Apokatallassó: Why the Cross Left No Reconciliation Incomplete

To the synergistic teachers on this board who continuously attempt to dilute the finished work of Jesus Christ: You love to distort the biblical doctrine of reconciliation by turning it into a provisional "two-way street." You falsely claim that Christ merely did "His part" at the cross to make reconciliation possible, but that it remains incomplete, ineffective, and one-sided until the creature does "man's part" by an autonomous act of faith.

This teaching is a direct assault on the efficiency and sufficiency of the substitutionary death of Christ. It reduces the Prince of Peace to a weak negotiator who signed a tentative treaty that requires the co-signature of dead rebels to become valid.

Scripture rejects this humanistic philosophy. The text of the New Testament establishes that the reconciliation achieved in Phase II (The Legal Phase) is an objective, definitive, and structurally complete reality.

1. The Linguistic Weight of Apokatallassó

Look at the precise vocabulary the Holy Spirit inspires Paul to use in Colossians 1:21-22:

"And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight."

The Greek verb translated as "reconciled" here is ἀποκαταλλάσσω (apokatallassó). It is a double-compound verb, and its grammatical construction is devastating to the conditionalist view:

  • The prefix ἀπό (apo-) intensifies the root verb, meaning thoroughly, completely, and exhaustively.
  • καταλλάσσω (katallassō) means to change from enmity to friendship.
By choosing apokatallassó, the Holy Spirit is explicitly declaring a complete and total reconciliation. This is not a partial or conditional transaction. If an individual has been apokatallassó-ed by the death of Christ, they are forensically brought into a state where they are already "holy, unblameable, and unreproveable" in the eyes of God. If the reconciliation were waiting for human ratification to become complete, Paul could not use past-tense, accomplished verbs to describe its current forensic reality.

2. The Unanswerable Timeline of Romans 5:10

The absolute refutation of your "human cooperation" theory is anchored immovably in Romans 5:10:

"For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

Consider the devastating structural timeline this text forces upon your system:

  • The Past Fact: The text uses an Aorist passive participle—κατηλλάγημεν (katēllagēmen), meaning "we were completely reconciled." It is a closed, historical event that took place in 33 AD.
  • The Human Condition: This definitive transaction occurred "when we were enemies."
An enemy, by definition, is not cooperating, is not exercising faith, and is not "accepting" a provisional offer. If reconciliation depended on man's faith to make it effective, Paul would have been forced to write that we were reconciled after we ceased being enemies. Instead, the text declares that while the Elect were in a state of active ontological rebellion, Christ stood as their legal Surety and unilaterally extinguished the fire of divine wrath against them.

3. Peace Has Been Made—Not Offered

To say that God is at peace with man, but man is not at peace with God, and therefore the reconciliation is incomplete, is a severe category error. God is the injured party; His holy Law is the standard that was violated. When Jesus Christ shed His blood, He did not make a provisional proposal for peace; He made peace.

"...and, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself..." (Colossians 1:20)

The Gospel is not an invitation for a dead sinner to create peace or complete a lopsided transaction. The Gospel is the glorious heralding of a warfare that is already legally over for the Elect world (2 Corinthians 5:19). In Phase III and IV, the Holy Spirit irresistibly quickens the opened heart (Acts 16:14) to apprehend this forensic peace. Christ’s death was completely efficient: it did not merely open a door; it successfully brought His people back into perfect harmony with the Godhead. The reconciliation is complete. 15

Soli Deo Gloria.

The reconciliation is complete !2

Now how was this accomplished ? The text tells us Col 1:20

And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.

It was solely by /through the blood of His Cross, or His Death, the same Death of Rom 5:10

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death or Blood of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

And by it [His Death/Blood] He made Peace with God. And once again, lets now look at the word peace, its the greek word eirénopoios and means:

I make peace, reconcile.

to make peace, establish harmony

Now this could not be True if both parties have not been reconciled to one another ! It establishes a harmony between God and men. Now it doesnt begin with the men in and of themselves, but of men as they are represented in Christ their Head. Its just like in the beginning man had a harmony with God in Adam, their federal covenant head at creation, before the transgression, so likewise, those men in Christ, whom He represented in His death, burial, and resurrection, they now have a harmony with God, and vice versa because of the harmony that exist between Christ their Head and God !. Now all men Christ represented have no less harmony with God as man had with God before the fall in Adam ! Yes before the fall God was reconciled to Adam and men in him, and Adam and men in him reconciled to God.

The reconciliation is complete ! 3

The same Truth of the peace/reconciliation the death of Christ would provide for them He died for is seen in the OT Prophets here Isa 53:5

But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

The word peace shalom means :

completeness, soundness, welfare, peace, peace, friendship

  1. of human relationships

with God especially in covenant relationship
Those whom Christ died for, for whom He was wounded for their transgressions[rebellion], bruised for their iniquities, it effected for them Peace with God and reconciliation with God.

Understand, those Christ died for, God upon Him took out vengeance upon Him for their sins, so that Gods vengeance on their sins has been appeased, Justice for them hath been satisfied, and Peace established

    Isa 54:10

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the Lord that hath mercy on thee. 15

My Synthesis:

The Covenant of Shalom: An Infallible Legal Reality

The modern religious world treats reconciliation as an open-ended, fragile possibility that hinges entirely on the sinner's autonomous human will. This error is completely silenced by the prophetic testimony of Isaiah 53:5 and Isaiah 54:10.

The Holy Spirit records that the Messiah bore the "chastisement of our peace [shalom]". The Hebrew concept of shalom denotes absolute completeness, soundness, and full payment. At Calvary, in the Legal Phase of salvation, a strict transaction took place:
  1. The Sin Transferred: The rebellion and iniquities of the elect were judicially laid upon Christ.
  2. The Wrath Exhausted: God’s holy vengeance against those specific sins was entirely spent upon the Substitute.
  3. The Justice Satisfied: The debt was paid in full, leaving no remaining liability for the people He died for.
Because this peace was fully effected by His stripes, God declares in Isaiah 54:10 that His "covenant of peace" shall never be removed. It is an unbending, eternal finality. God does not hover in a state of suspended, conditional anger waiting to see what the creature will do. His justice is satisfied, His friendship is secured, and His free love ensures that every single soul included in this covenant of peace will be sovereignly quickened in time and glorified in eternity. The reconciliation is not a potential offer—it is completely and eternally finished!

Why the be ye reconciled to God ?

2 Cor 5:17-20

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. 18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God

This imperative, in the passive voice may i add, is directed to new creatures in Christ Vs 17, also to them that have already been reconciled to God by Christ's death Vs 18-19; Rom 5:10, to them that have no sins of theirs charged or imputed to them Vs 19.

Now the imperative to them is not to the unreconciled, but the already reconciled, so its not an imperative wherein a choice must be made to either obey or not, be reconciled or not be reconciled, no its an imperative wherein God is actually causing the already reconciled, is causing the truth of it to be reconciled, embraced, receive into their hearts and minds and affections, causing them to receive the truth of them having already been reconciled to God through Christ's death. We know this because the command " be ye reconciled" is in the passive voice,, which means :

The passive voice represents the subject as being the recipient of the action. E.g., in the sentence, "The boy was hit by the ball," the boy receives the action.

Its the living voice of Christ, through His messengers turning the minds and hearts of His people to embrace the truth in Faith. Under the New Covenant it is written Ezk 36:27

And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.

Its a command as if Christ were to say, let there be light, light would therefore obey the command of Christ, hence Christ shines in the heart the light of the gospel [of reconciliation through Him] 2 Cor 4:6

For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

So the imperative is not to lost souls separated from God, and dead in sin, but quickened, regenerated souls, new creatures, who are now being reconciled to the truth of their reconciliation/salvation ! 15

My Synthesis:

Subject: Why the Command "Be Ye Reconciled to God"? Analyzing the Passive Imperative

When Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 5:20, "we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God," modern religionists immediately assume this is an open-ended invitation to dead sinners to initiate peace with God. A strict contextual and linguistic analysis flatly rejects this view.

Consider the immutable boundaries of the text:

1. The Contextual Audience: Already Justified New Creatures

Paul does not address lost souls dead in trespasses and sins. The imperative in verse 20 is strictly directed to:

- Those who are already "in Christ" and are "new creatures" (v. 17).

- Those whom God "hath reconciled to himself by Jesus Christ" (v. 18).

- Those to whom God is "not imputing their trespasses" (v. 19).

This is a redeemed, forgiven world. The text is addressed to the spiritually born who were legally reconciled to God by His Son’s death while they were yet enemies (Romans 5:10).

2. The Grammar of Sovereign Power: The Passive Voice

The Greek imperative "be ye reconciled" (katallagēte) is explicitly in the PASSIVE voice.

Grammar Fact: The passive voice represents the subject as being the recipient of the action (e.g., "The boy was hit by the ball"). The subject does not perform the action; he receives it.

Therefore, this is not a conditional command where a creature must choose to obey or not. It is a CAUSAL imperative. It is the living voice of Christ, through His ambassadors, entering the hearts of His quickened people and effectively causing them to embrace, receive, and submit to the legal reality of what has already been done for them at the cross.

3. The Sovereign Mechanism: Ezekiel 36:27 & 2 Corinthians 4:6

This is how the New Covenant operates. God does not wait for human permission; He sovereignly works the result:

"And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes..." (Ezekiel 36:27)

It operates on the exact same principle as the creation of physical light:

"For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts..." (2 Corinthians 4:6)

When God speaks the word of reconciliation to a soul He has already quickened i

Being reconciled to God even when they were being enemies, is proof that their sins had been done away with, and God not imputing them to them 2 Cor 5:19, else they could not have been reconciled to God and received into His favour, which being reconciled entails. The greek word for reconciled in Rom 5:10 is katallasso, which does mean that God receives one into His favour, having reconciled that one to Himself 2 Cor5:18; to be restored to favour; and once again this is true of all sinners Christ died for, which reconciled them to God while they themselves were being enemies, that is being hostile to God and opposing Him. 15

Synthesis:

Reconciliation While We Were Enemies Proves the Efficacy of Christ’s Death

Paul declares:

“For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
—Romans 5:10, KJV
Notice what Paul establishes. The people in view were still enemies when they were reconciled to God, and Paul explicitly attributes that reconciliation to the death of Christ’s Son.

The Greek verb translated reconciled is καταλλάσσω (katallassō), meaning to reconcile or restore a relationship. In this context, it describes the saving reconciliation accomplished through Christ’s death.

Now consider Paul's explanation in 2 Corinthians 5:19:

“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.”
Paul connects reconciliation with not imputing trespasses. This is not merely God making reconciliation possible or deciding that He might reconcile someone at a later time. The reconciliation is grounded in what God accomplished through Christ.

If God has reconciled someone to Himself in the judicial sense Paul describes, that person's sins are no longer being imputed against him as the basis of condemnation. Christ's work has dealt with the liability of sin.

This is consistent with Romans 5:9:

“Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”
And it is consistent with Colossians 1:21–22:

“And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight.”
Notice the order Paul gives us:

Enemies and alienated → reconciled through Christ’s death → presented holy and unblameable before God.

The reconciliation is attributed to Christ's death, and its purpose is the presentation of His people before God.

What does this mean for the elect before conversion?

It means that the elect could still be hostile to God in their minds, walking in unbelief and wickedness, while Christ had already accomplished their legal reconciliation through His death.

Their hostility was real. Their sins were real. Their need for regeneration and conversion was real.

But their hostility did not make Christ's sacrifice ineffective.

Legal reconciliation does not mean that the sinner was already regenerated or consciously enjoying peace with God. It means that Christ had accomplished the saving work that establishes peace with God for those He represented.

The Vital Phase follows, as the Spirit gives spiritual life; then comes the Practical Phase, in which the regenerated sinner believes, repents, and consciously enjoys the peace of the Gospel.

The sinner's faith does not travel backward and make Christ's death effective. It is part of the saving application that follows Christ's accomplished work.

And notice Paul's conclusion in Romans 5:10:

“Much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.”
Paul does not describe reconciliation as an uncertain possibility awaiting an independent human contribution. He speaks of an accomplished reconciliation and then connects it with the subsequent salvation secured through Christ's life.

Christ's death accomplished reconciliation. The Spirit gives life. The regenerated sinner believes. Christ brings His people to glory.

That is the distinction between the Legal, Vital, and Practical Phases of salvation. Christ does not merely make reconciliation possible; He accomplishes the saving work that secures the salvation of those He represented. 15

More on the word of reconciliation!

The World here spoken of here 2 Cor 5:19

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

First of all, the World here are a mixture of jew and Gentile Elect! And a aspect of their reconciliation to God is God not imputing, charging or reckoning their sins, trespasses, iniquities unto them. 20

So those Christ hath reconciled, God doesn't impute with sin, even though they sin! They are of these blessed ones spoken of here Rom 4:8

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.

This applies to the world of God's Elect here 2 Cor 5:19!How we know that its Gods Elect? Because Paul calls them the Chosen in his first epistle to the Corinthians 1 Cor 1:27-28

But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:

My Synthesis:

The Explicit Contextual Definition of the "World" in the Corinthian Epistles

A foundational error of conditional theology is the unscriptural assumption that the Greek word kosmos ("world") must always refer to every single individual of the human race without exception. When the Scripture declares in 2 Corinthians 5:19 that “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them,” the identity of this "world" is legally and textually restricted.
By comparing spiritual things with spiritual and tracing how the Holy Spirit defines His terms across the Corinthian letters, the claim of universal atonement completely unravels:

1. The Definitive Definition of the "World" (1 Corinthians 1:27–28)

Paul does not alter his theological vocabulary between his first and second epistles to the same church. In 1 Corinthians 1:27–28, the Holy Spirit explicitly defines the specific group that God isolates out of the kosmos:
  • “But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen...”
The text uses the word "world" to establish the exact pool out of which sovereign election operates. The "world" that God reconciles to Himself in 2 Corinthians 5:19 is the exact same multi-ethnic "world" out of which He sovereignly chose His people in 1 Corinthians 1. It is the world of God's elect—comprised of both Jews and Gentiles—separated from the non-elect world by an eternal decree of grace.

2. The Unbending Legal Mechanics of Non-Imputation (2 Corinthians 5:19)

The text states that the defining characteristic of this reconciled world is that God is "not imputing their trespasses unto them."
  • To impute (logizomai) means to judicially reckon, calculate, or charge an item to a legal account.
  • Romans 4:8 confirms this exclusive blessing: “Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin.”
Apply the rules of basic mathematical logic to this passage: If the word "world" in 2 Corinthians 5:19 means every single human being without exception, then God is not imputing trespasses to any human being who has ever lived. If sins are not legally imputed to them, they cannot be judicially condemned under the wrath of God. If you deny universal salvation—which the text forces you to do—then you must textually admit that the "world" being reconciled is strictly bounded by those whose sins were legally transferred to and paid for by Christ at the cross (Phase II - Legal Phase).

3. The Structural Exclusion of Human Glory

The explicit reason God limits His reconciliation to this chosen world is laid down at the end of the structural unit in 1 Corinthians 1:29:
“That no flesh should glory in his presence.”

If salvation or the forensic non-imputation of sin were a conditional offer waiting to be activated by a human act of faith (Phase IV - Practical Phase), then the creature would have a legitimate ground to boast in its own choice. But because objective reconciliation was a finished judicial reality achieved completely by Christ for this chosen world while they were still unborn enemies (Romans 5:10), all human merit is permanently excluded. The debt was blotted out at the cross, and the quickened elect believe in time not to trigger the verdict, but as the absolute, gift-bearing evidence that they belong to the world of His chosen.

Good News hard to believe

And what might that be ? That sinful men have been reconciled to God while they are enemies! The only condition they must meet is to be, ungodly enemies, opposing God in their minds by wicked works! And still sinners have obtained the Favor of God,Gods Wrath against them for many sins have been appeased. Now how could this be ? Tis because a multitude of Elect sinners, Loved and Chosen by God in Christ before the foundation of the World Ephesians 1:4. Now for them, Christ has discharged all the conditions and qualifications, performances needed for their full reconciliation to God! 20

My Synthesis :

What is that Good News?

It is the staggering, legal reality that sinful men have been completely reconciled to God while they were still ungodly enemies!
Look at the absolute, unyielding mechanics of how God actually saved His people from start to finish:

I. The Only "Qualification" of the Elect

In your synergistic systems, a man must qualify for grace by providing an autonomous choice, a sincere invitation, or an entry-level faith from his "old man." But according to the unalterable covenant of God, the only "condition" the elect ever met to receive the benefits of the cross was to be ungodly, dead, and hostile enemies opposing God in their minds by wicked works!
  • Romans 5:6: "For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly."
  • Romans 5:10: "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son..."
The elect did not clean themselves up to get reconciled. They did not produce a "tandem" faith to precipitate grace. They were caught red-handed in the very act of cosmic rebellion against the King of Heaven, and yet—while in that exact state of carnal enmity—they obtained the absolute favor of God! His holy wrath against them for their many sins was completely, perfectly, and legally appeased.

II. Christ Discharged Every Single Performance (The Legal Phase)

How could a Holy Judge legally declare an ungodly enemy to be righteous? It is because of The Eternal Phase (Election) and The Legal Phase (33 AD).

Before the foundation of the world, God loved and chose a particular multitude of elect sinners in Christ (Ephesians 1:4). And for that specific people, Jesus Christ stepped into the courtroom and completely discharged every single condition, qualification, and performance required for their full reconciliation!
  • He didn't just pay a down payment and leave man to pay the interest of choice.
  • He didn't just make salvation "possible" if man complies.
  • By His blood, He actually purchased and secured the elect, satisfying God's justice as a perfect Substitution and Propitiation (Romans 3:24-26, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

III. The Guaranteed Fruit (The Vital and Practical Phases)

Because Christ successfully discharged all conditions at Calvary, the application of that salvation is an absolute mathematical certainty.
  • The Holy Spirit will sovereignly break into the graveyard of the elect world in The Vital Phase (Regeneration) and quicken them into life, entirely apart from human will (John 1:13, John 3:8).
  • And because they have been vitally made alive, they will fall down in The Practical Phase (Conversion), completely persuaded by the divine Persuader, manifesting the evidential fruit of living faith.

Conclusion

This is the Gospel that free-will philosophy hates. They want a god who makes an offer and a man who seals the deal.
But the Bible preaches a finished legal discharge. Christ didn't leave a single loophole or an open-ended condition for the dead corpse of the old man to perform. He paid it all, He satisfied the Father, and He saves His sheep unconditionally. Salvation is of the Lord

Be ye reconciled to God !

2 Cor 5:18-20

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.

Now exactly to whom does the Holy Spirit through Paul here preaching the word of reconciliation, bid "be ye reconciled to God" ?

Well, it most definitely isn't to the unreconciled to God, for its plainly said previously that those to whom he was writing had already been reconciled to God, Vs 18

18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

And Vs 19 says

To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

So those spoken to in Vs 20 are those who already have been reconciled to God by Christ's death, as also says Rom 5:10

For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

So, the Truth being told, the "be ye reconciled to God" imperative in Vs 20 is Gods call by the word of reconciliation, the Gospel of Peace, unto the already reconciled, to now apprehend their reconciliation to God by Faith, for Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, the Truth of God. Those who have been unconditionally reconciled to God by Christ's death, don't know it until God given Faith from the New Birth causes them to realize it or apprehend it. 21

My Synthesis:

Be Ye Reconciled to God! The Gospel Call to the Already Reconciled

One of the most frequent errors made by conditionalists is the assumption that the gospel command in 2 Corinthians 5:20, "be ye reconciled to God," is a generic, free-will invitation directed at the unregenerate world to get them to activate their own salvation. A close, grammatical examination of the context completely shatters this view.

Exactly to whom does the Holy Spirit, through Paul, bid "be ye reconciled to God" in verse 20? It most definitely is not to an unreconciled world dead in sins. Paul explicitly states in verse 18 that those to whom he is writing "hath reconciled" (past tense) to Himself by Jesus Christ. Furthermore, verse 19 identifies this group as a "world" that has "not imputing their trespasses unto them."

This is an accomplished, unconditional fact established in the Legal Phase of Salvation (33 AD). This perfectly matches Romans 5:10, which declares that we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son while we were still ungodly enemies. If their sins are not imputed to them, and if they were already received into divine favor at Calvary, they cannot simultaneously be under legal wrath or condemnation.

The Causal Imperative to the Born of God said:
2 Corinthians 5:20: "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God."
Because the legal transaction is already finished, the imperative "be ye reconciled to God" in verse 20 operates in a completely different phase. It is God's sovereign call by the word of reconciliation—the Gospel of Peace—directed strictly unto the already legally reconciled sheep.

The phrase "be ye reconciled" is a passive imperative (katallagēte). The passive voice means the subject is the recipient of the action; the command itself is instrumental and works upon them. It is a sovereign, causal turning of their minds and hearts. Those who have been unconditionally reconciled by Christ’s death do not know it by nature, because they are born into this world with a carnal nature at enmity with God. Therefore, the Holy Spirit must first quicken them in the Vital Phase (Regeneration) apart from the word, giving them spiritual life.

Once they are vitally alive, the gospel call goes out in the Practical Phase (Conversion). The command does not stand outside hoping for a response from dead flesh; it sovereignly draws that existing spiritual life into action. It is a summons to drop the weapons of carnal fear and native blindness, and to apprehend, realize, and embrace their interest in Christ by Faith. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17).

My favorite theologian, John Gill, completely locks down this exact distinction in his Exposition of the Entire Bible:

"This exhortation is not directed to the world at large... but to the church, to the saints at Corinth... who were already reconciled to God as to the article of redemption, and the legal satisfaction made for their sins by Christ; but they needed to be exhorted to lay aside all carnal fears and doubts, and to receive the word of reconciliation in faith... It is an exhortation to the regenerated to embrace the truth of their reconciliation, and to walk in the comfort of a victory already completely finished for them at the cross."
The covenant chain is unbroken. The elect were chosen in the Brief Council of Eternity (Eternal Phase); their sins were entirely blotted out and their righteousness finalized at the cross (Legal Phase); they are sovereignly quickened out of spiritual deadness by the immediate voice of Christ (Vital Phase); and the gospel command in verse 20 turns their quickened hearts to embrace the legal reality in the Practical Phase. The gospel doesn't make the victory happen; it brings the finished victory to light!
