In our deliberately secular government, that makes sense. You are free to believe whatever you wish, but "I believe" is not justification to do whatever you wish. Discriminating against gays in business practices is illegal and beliefs are no excuse.

So, judge, we are free to believe anything you want, just don't act on it; just conform to the pagan world around us and don't make waves.

The judge spoke utter nonsense in that his statement is all inclusive.

Of course not all religiously motivated actions are protected. Worshipers of Kali would murder people as an act of worship. That would not be permitted. Neither would a revival of the worship of Molloch make throwing your infants into the ceremonial fires be permitted. Neither would lynching homosexuals because the Westborro Baptist Church pastor said it was the right thing to do.

Someone more enlightened that Benton County Superior Court Judge Alexander C. Ekstrom said that faith without works is dead. (as quoted in the original post) The idea that faith or belief and action based on that faith are separable is illogical nonsense. If I believe then it follows that I will act on my belief, not contrary to it.

The first amendment of the constitution guarantees the "free exercise" of religion. The word "exercise" necessarily includes actions and those actions would be motivated by the religious beliefs. Otherwise, the amendment would be meaningless. And since the progressive/socialist left has no hope in repealing the amendment, their next best result would be to render it meaningless as this judges has attempted to do.

Judeo-Christian religions have always been anathema to the progressive/socialist left. It proposed absolute truths and socialism cannot function within the limits of absolute truth. That's why the revolutionaries of the French Revolution slaughtered priests and nuns by the thousands as did Joseph Stalin. Christianity is an impediment to the progress of socialism. (Because socialism is inherently evil. :) )
