15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. - 2 Timothy 2:15.
There is a point that believers need to recognize when studying and looking at what is "the gospel." If you have given yourself to understanding how to study the scriptures or how to read your bible then there are some things you will come to that will help you to look at scripture with understanding. There is nothing of a more determining factor in living life than a believer that can pick up the scriptures and read them with understanding. Understanding is the greatest tool for knowing God and walking through the scriptures. As you know we have had alot of different kinds of knowledges (my word) concerning the scriptures. The scriptures were never written, or given with that in mind. The scriptures are given so you will know, K-N-O-W, know, and your knowledge comes from a knowing.
The old saying "you are what you eat" comes into play here in scripture reading. In our case what and how you take it in and run it through your filter will be how you react or makes you who you are in understanding.
Scriptures like "as a man thinketh so is he" and "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh," will shine through right or wrong.
Being right or wrong is not always what is at issue when digging into the word of God because me being right all the time is not what is at issue in the scriptures. Simple example; if you have lived long enough you know there have been times you had to go wrong or be wrong in order to find the right. So you killing yourself in a scripture search to be right on a subject to defend an argument is probably a waste of time. It may contrast your knowledge in time but we can't use the scriptures just to prove a point, it is pointless me being right or you being right. I'm not talking about the cross and other solid doctrinal points! In doctrine there is no other way in salvation than the cross, virgin birth, death, burial, resurrection, ascension and many more. I'm talking about a believers growth through scripture reading.
So what is at issue in the scriptures? Seeing the scriptures bring life to humanity. What did Jesus say? "search the scriptures for in them you think you have eternal life." What is in the scriptures 'eternal life' and that life has become your life the moment you believed on the Lord Jesus Christ. That is the cross preached in its simplest form to present to all that will hear.
So why do we say Paul is so important to the believer understanding scripture? Because if you will follow Paul as scripture say to do everyone ends up in the same place. You will not have a few way over there with their understanding, and a few way over here with their understanding, and a bunch off on a tangent doing their own thing. It is quite the opposite of that, he brings it and everyone together. Believers that follow Paul through the scriptures will be settled in understanding in time the not knowing becomes a knowing.
Established:
Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, - Romans 16:25.
Peter described it as such:
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. - 1 Peter 5:10.
