Should We Clap in Church?

Many times with special music , we respond with clapping Who is getting the applause? Man or woman because they did a good job, or should the glory go to God?
Clapping was never done in the Temple. Amen shows agreement and honour's the Lord, not the person singing.

There are multiple ways we can worship and show our appreciation for God's goodness and clapping is just one.

and as for being stoic. When we clap for special music, who are we clapping for? The person, or the Lord? This is the problem. We are supposed to be uplifting Christ, not the singer.

them many popular christain singers , they yoked up with all sorts of things one ought never to have been .
For weeks TWO were number one on the christain chart . ONE was LESBIAN and the other supports it .
THINGS AINT LOOKING GOOD these days . Time we never once support them sold out singers
who have yoked up with the world and go with the ever changing flow of the times .

I don’t think it matters if you clap. But I do get your question. In church I’ve seen them ask people who went out as a group to witness to others…to stand up and appalled for how many they saved that trip. The church appalling how many said the prayer of salvation and became believers. They count how many. I also wondered about it. Or I guess maybe you mean calling evangelist to the front to appalled their efforts from a trip. Or the women who held the dinner and did all the cooking and serving? But I guess it’s nice to know your efforts were acknowledged as contributions to the whole? I don’t know. It’s a good question though. I’m thinking about Paul acknowledging those who saw to his needs and his receiving of their fruit…saying no other church communicated with my affliction. he said “you did well”. Not necessarily clapping but he thanked God for the fruit…edifying and encouraging them in “you did well”.

Clapping is not the only biblically sanctioned use of the hands in worship.
Do you lift up your hands when you pray just as Paul wants you to do?
"I desire that in every place the men SHOULD PRAY, LIFTING UP HOLY HANDS without argument (1 Timothy 2:8)."

Do you recognize the biblical principle that lifting your hands in prayer can release your inhibitions and deepen your longing for God?
"I stretch out my hands to You; my soul thirsts for You like a parched land (Psalm 143:6)."

I've attended church services that are so stoic I thought I got my days wrong,and was attending a wake.

We're not Vulcans, we're Christians filled with the vibrant powers of God's Holy Spirit.
Clap,sing,praise the Lord.

You'll have time to stay stiff and mute in church on a different day.

Follow where the SPIRIT leads , the HOLY HOLY HOLY SPIRIT leads .
AND SEEING ITS HOLY it wont lead us into SIN .

but sure seem to be leading folks into the ACCEPTANCE OF SATANS RAINBOW and false all inclusive deadly fake love .

Well,we will sing praises to God when in Heaven so,I doubt God would be disappointed when we sing and clap and dance while praising him in his house of worship.

Adding: God gifted the singer to sing. Applauding that gift,blessing,is praising both God and his gift shared with others.

Yet the FRUITS are clearly seen .

YES SISTER , you do speak truly . I have visited many a church and when the praise began
this lamb was dancing . cause i was simply praising the LORD .
But when the doctrine came this lambs face turned green , a wee pit pale .
In time as i grew in the LORD correction to the elders in private would begin
but the so called elders TWISTED and thus this lamb left . GOT THE HECK OUT OF THAT PLACE
and er other place . cause if the LEADERS are infected , THE WHOLE PLACE WILL BE INFECTED .
NOt a leader one could prove my simple points wrong . IN FACT most , most of them said
your right accoring to how its written , but they then tried to twist the meaning . AND I was not correcting them on
things like pre , mid or post trib , RATHER SIMPLE teachings . IF the heart be not after GOD
how can one rightly divide things . THEY CANT . Many are not and have not been BORN again

I presume you were referring to “applause“ for special music, which some responders appear to have misunderstood, since “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” can include all manner of tasteful music and percussive sounds.

I tried to convince our congregation that applause for special music (including choirs) missed the point of a church service. (The exception has been in our lovely Lenten services, which ask congregations to be respectively silent except for congregational hymns.) Some performers like applause (”validates their music”? “stroke their egos”), but I wonder if it sends the wrong message, especially to children’s choirs. Somehow worshipful music that is inspiring and enjoyable has often evolved into entertainment!
