When you know someone well enough, you can read their mind. And we are called to become like little children, as you say. So Paul's passage "When i was a child" should be understood in the context of the whole chapter; wherein all of the adult stuff is subtly dismissed, and all of the stuff that little children do natch is all that's left. the old wine is better, they say :)

Becoming as a child is one thing and putting away childish ways is quite another. Too many people sitting in the pews and standing behind a pulpit continue to engage in childish ways. Or perhaps it is that they still drink milk through a nipple after their 21st birthday. They often so not even realize a need to grow up and eat meat. Are they so comfortable where they are?

too late for what, though? and also too late for whom? bc other ppl, witnesses, are pretty much intrinsic to the issue, right. What we might perceive as being "too late" for them is also surely a learning aid for all of the witnesses, right? Iow we perceive the sin abounding, but maybe overlook the grace abounding more, which is harder to see many times, imo. Except in hindsight, huh, it often clarifies then

As you say, sometimes while it is late, it not quite too late. Consider the workers who were only sent out to work beginning in the 11th hour. They nonetheless received the same penny at the end of the day as those who had worked all of the long day.

A real learning aid for people is the "good" thief on the cross who received a favorable promise from Jesus just before his physical death. Then comes to mind the old saying of men, "Better late than never".

Even so! People are not usually so insincere in their actions or inactions that they would say or believe that they were playing games. Probably some would believe that you and I are also playing games here. This is perhaps why doctrine, as I see it, is so very unimportant to God in the final judgment.

at least the way we define it now, ya. As far as Paul was concerned i'm pretty sure someone's doctrine could only be determined by watching them for a day or so :)

Yes, some insist that much, or even all, of what Jesus said in the gospels was directed only to certain delegated recipients instead of to everyone who would read the written record. I just cannot believe that that is so.

There were certainly some real martyrs, but likely there were also were many who talked the talk, but failed to walk the walk. Peter's example comes to mind:

"Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples." Matt 26:35

Yes, indeed! When I worked for the Social Security Administration we spoke a very different language from the public we were supposed to be serving. Likely those in other fields of work or those living different life styles in spite of a common English background had their very distinct languages. When one met up with someone outside his field or life style, each person might have to slow down his speech so that the other guy would have a clue as to what he was really saying.

Abstraction and psycho-diversity

Human economy is self-similar to the biosphere but since the biosphere is wholly integrated into planet earth, reason too should be expected to sit on a proto-reasonable mental skeleton, which in turn is self-similar to our planet. The transition between the most complicated forms of matter and the simplest forms of life is the same as the mind's transition into abstraction. This transition marked the beginning of the use of words (symbols) that represented real concepts. Abstraction (the rudiments of which are demonstrably shared with many higher animals) allowed for much greater complexity in thought and in turn literally changed people's minds. Prior to language, people as bright as we are today had the contemplative and conferential capacity of infants.

Language only works when a sound means the same thing in separate minds.
When proto-verbal expressions mean different things, entropy is high and nobody understands each other. When folks agree on the meaning of words, the entropy is low and folks can get along. When words are agreed on, folks can even step up and compare whole ideas, and so on. The scientific method, therefore, is not a tool to ease out some absolute Truth that Platonically exists apart from the universe, but rather a way for people to describe reality in such a way that we can all dig it, and so to raise the level of convention, and so to achieve more diversity. This same principle should be usable to explain bio-diversity.
