I tried drugs as well, and now I can't stand the thought of being in any kind of dissociative state. Anything that clouds the mind will hinder me from hearing from God, and thus hinder me from growing in the kingdom of God, and having the kingdom of God grow within me.

Reminds me of this C.S. Lewis quote, "If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world." He mentions drugs, but there are many different things we pursue in our attempt to fill that God-shaped void that only He can fill.

Good post!
Yes, the "world" continues to try filling cisterns that are really sieves because nothing stays, rarely do things turn out the way we planned. One looks forward to a date for weeks and is so excited imagining what they will say, wear, etc. Then "the" night arrives and it is a bust. NOTHING went as planned and the date was a real jerk. Or, plan a vacation at a resort or a beach and it rains all week.

BUT, if we drink from His cup, it is always full And He want's the best for us and obeying Him is actually blessing ourselves!

Love C.S., he's my favorite Christian author. I remember this quote and the "sex" part is:
"The Christian says, 'Creatures are not born with desires unless satisfaction for those desires exists. ... Men feel sexual desire: well, there is such a thing as sex. If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world."

Here is another of his that I love:

“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.”

― C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory, and Other Addresses

Enjoyed your post @Irwin Fletcher :)

Thanks Nancy! I love his writings as well. In the book I wrote, I used many of his quotes to begin chapters and set the theme for the chapter. Here is a free chapter/sample if you are interested: Help My Unbelief
