I'm just having my own little Thanksgiving at home with my parents because even though we usually get together with my cousins this year we decided that we would rather not take this risk with the pandemic. Still, I'm thankful that we can have that at least with a nice hot turkey meal. Yummy,.. I can taste that already. :D

I'm actually going to break quarantine and have it with friends...
Their cute little boys asked me if I could.

I cooked their last Thanksgiving dinner at their house...and they were shocked and thrilled with the food and fellowship.

So my friend redid his kitchen.... completely gutted and redid it with new appliances and counters.
And wants me to put it through it's paces.
Because I can...

And friends don't let friends eat cracker barrel for Thanksgiving.
My son will kick in too with some pies.
All will be good. I'll cook a ton and eat myself silly.

Thanksgiving is not a big thing in Australia, there is certainly no day off for it here, not many celebrate it here.

I Love the Fall!!

The Turkey, Duck, Pheasant, ...whatever cooking, Delicious and colorful side dishes... desserts...Yum Yum!

Harvesting and food preserves done, landscape trees color, Last of the wildflowers bloomed, crisp air, wearing flannel, Fire pit burning, hot cider and coco, smores, kids, adults, family, friends, reminiscing stories from days gone by...

And All gathered with loved ones in Heartfelt ...
THANKS-for-Being-GIVEN !

That's pretty much our Tradition...
What changes, is we take Turns at whose home we will gather.

Glory to God,
Taken

Now I know that the Americans know the Thanksgiving story well but in case those in the UK or OZ don't...

The Colony founded by the Pilgrims (missionaries) at Jamestown were miserable. Each Winter had been disastrous. They had come in one spirit to establish a colony and evangelize the indigenous people...they were failing.

The communal housing was never warm enough, everyone was starving from the communal farms not producing enough food. The brewery didn't produce enough beer... people were dying.

So as a last ditch effort they punted.

They abandoned the socialist lifestyle and assigned plots of land to farm. And you would "live or die" by what they produced.

No more expecting others to do their share of work supporting you and you for them.

So...
They worked hard each on their plot of land... redundant fields planted in corn and peas and whatever that used to just contain one item as the communal farms.
Come that fall they had a bumper crop harvest...so much food was harvested that they knew they would never consume it all over the winter and spring. The beer kegs and vats were all full... including some new ones. (Water was unfit to drink in Europe so no one was comfortable drinking water unless it was beer or wine)

So they got to doing what they planned on from the start...they invited the Indians over for a meal...and showed them that they were thankful to God for their harvest. Went hunting together...had a huge blowout of a party spanning several days.

Unfortunately, no one really understood viruses and bacteria. The Indians moved off after the party and died from measles and chicken pox. But the Pilgrim missionaries were happy in the meantime...and thankful in their knowledge of witnessing Christ to the people.

And so today we still are thankful to God each fall at Thanksgiving for his provision.
We set aside that day or make a four day weekend out of it and watch football and start Christmas shopping.

I'm guessing that they're former Americans if some of them celebrate it in Australia.
