There is a great distinction between the spirit of man and the soul of man.
All mankind have the spirit of man, it is not unique among men but is the same.
Genesis 2
7] And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils, the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
----In my studies I believe the breath of life is the spirit of man.
Ecclesiastes 3:21
20] All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
[21] Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?
The spirit or breath of life goes back to God who gave it.
Ecc.8
6] Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. 7] Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
8] There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he POWER in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it.
The silver cord is life, the golden bowl or pitcher, these represent our vessels of clay that in death are dissolvable back to that from which it was formed.
Souls, I believe are personalized and are not reusable as reincarnateists believe! It is however only possible to have a soul if it is inspired by God.
Job 32:8 But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
Ezekiel 18:4 KJV
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
ALL SOULS belong to God, he is the sole possessor, ( no pun intended ),however the final destiny can be determined by man.
This chapter in Ezekiel is an excellent study on the soul of man.
Mark. 8
35] For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it. 36] For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Matthew 16:26 - For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? ( Same verse text with extended versions ).
Matthew 6:21
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
How then can we reconcile the spirit of man with God?
Romans 8:16 - The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: after the A,B,C s of salvation.( See thread Salvation in 7 thread by David NJ
1 Corinthians 6:17 - But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
I believe there is no separation of the spirit of man when we are joined to God by his Spirit.
I welcome input of the rightly dividing of the word, done in kindness and love.
Let's discuss if you have edifying thoughts.
