Why would anyone think the thief was baptized? He was being executed because he was a very wicked person, to which he personally admitted. I see no reason to believe he was baptized.

baptism brings us into that wonderful forgivness won by christ on the cross Gods great exchage ..

what baptism does not do ----is make Christ death for us unimportant it . . Baptism is built by God on that death and perfet life of Jesus for us.

Please clarify, are you saying that everyone who isn't baptized in water will spend eternity in Hell?

This reading that you point to shows that baptism has replaced circumcision. In the Old Testament, circumcision was a sign showing that those who were circumcised is a member of God's chosen people (See Genesis 17:10-14). In that passage, St. Paul refers to baptism as "the circumcision of Christ" and "the circumcision made without hands."

This comparison between baptism and circumcision is an appropriate one showing that "circumcision" was replaced to something better. In the Old Testament, if a man wanted to become a Jew, he had to believe in the God of Israel and be circumcised. In the New Testament, if one wants to become a Christian, one must believe in God and Jesus and be baptized. Thus, baptism became the sign that one belongs to God's family or is a member of God's family, just as circumcision was a sign that one belong to God's chosen people or is a member of God's chosen people. Baptism, therefore, has a twofold purpose. It not only serves to forgive sins but also to bring one into God's family. This is the basis of Paul’s reference to baptism as "the circumcision of Christ"—that is, the Christian equivalent of circumcision.

Can water baptism save a person? According to Scriptue, it can (See 1 Peter 3:21). Scripture points that there is a connection between water baptism and salvation for Jesus said that one must be born of water and spirit in order to enter the kingdom of Heaven. It should also be noted that water baptism did not come from man, but was ordered by God. If it came from man, then it has no power to save. According to St. Peter, water baptism can save (1 Peter 3:21).

As for the good thief on the cross, the Bible does not say whether he was baptized or not. It does not matter. What matters is the example that Jesus left for us. Jesus had Himself baptized, and everything that He did was important. Despite that He had no sin, He had Himself baptized, and allowed His disciples to baptize with water (John 4:1-2). That in itself shows that baptism is important simply because baptism has now replaced circumcision. Baptism has become a sign that we are members of God's family.
