Thanksgiving Celebration?

Living in a country that does not celebrate something like this...I was just wondering what y'all do...what kind of things do you eat and why.

I came across a lady a few days ago [originally from New York] who was picking up a few things in the store for thanksgiving day and she listed some of the things she was making for a least 12 friends coming in from the US.

Pecon pie, pumpkin pie, Blueberry pie, spinach [or something like that] Turkey and I can't remember the other things...What are you doing for thanksgiving this year? :)

We have the same thing every year...

Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie...not sure why other than that has been an American tradition.

In Mr. Gypsy's family, they also had stuffed dates and date bread so I added that. And I added a braided bread that is my own tradition.

Seems like we eat leftovers for DAYS!

We have always had a houseful - seems like all the "orphans" of this transient society end up at my house - so I make individual, personalized cards and put them at each place setting that let each person know why I am "thankful" they are in my life circle.

Sweet potato pie and from NY? She must have lived in the south at one time or had "southern exposure"!

Personally...I prefer Thanksgiving to Christmas. Seems more "authentic" to me. Thanksgiving is more a time for gathering with friends/family, sharing, fellowship (at least with those you have that in common with) and an overall quality experience of thankfulness and looking forward. Christmas has way too much hustle and bustle, as well as commercialism attached to it...at least here in the States.

It is my understanding that turkey or chicken stuffing was firstly used to soak up all the fat and toxins that came out of the bird during the cooking.
