I've been watching the TV series 'The Tudors', which is a 'loose' history about the royal Tudor king line of Great Britain, and Britain's 16th-17th century migration away from control by the Roman Church and the "bishop of bishops" (the early reference for the office of the pope).
What the Christian Reformers in Britain did was to give one of Henry VIII's mistresses a work written by Martin Luther about the violations of the Roman Church, the pope, and its clergy. The Catholic Cardinal in Britain that was king Henry's counselor kept those works written by the Reformers hidden, including causing such Reformers to flee. And yet even when the matter was coming to light, with king Henry looking into Reformation arguments, chancellor Sir Thomas Moore who supported the pope, even at that time was guilty of burning British Protestant Reformers at the stake in Britain.
Of course the Catholic Church and the pope saw the Protestant Reformation as a threat to their 'system' of controls. Their whole priest system is a LIE against The New Testament Scriptures.
There is not one New Testament Bible Scripture that authorizes or promotes a Levitical type priesthood for the Christian Church! There are selected bishop and elder positions mentioned in The New Testament Bible, but still not appointed by a pope, nor by a universal clergy system of man.
There is NO New Testament Bible Scripture that promotes Mary worship either. Nor is there any requirement for graven images to be used in Christian worship, nothing written about that either in The New Testament. As a matter of fact, God frowned heavily upon the use of graven images used in old covenant worship, because of how those things were used as IDOLS by the pagan nations around Israel.
And there is NO other Mediator between God and man than The Lord Jesus Christ, and that is specifically written in The New Testament Scriptures. That means a 'pope' cannot... be a Mediator to Christ, or to The Father for us. It also means even Apostle Peter was never a Mediator between us and The Father, only Jesus Christ is. The pope office didn't even begin until around the 3rd century A.D. because of bishops in Rome and bishops in Byzantine competing for power. So they all agree to make a pope office to be head over all. God did not create the pope office, man... created that pope office. If Apostle Peter had been given complete authority over the whole Christian Church, then Lord Jesus would have had no need to call Apostle Paul into His service to take The Gospel to the Gentiles! So those who try to use Peter to support the pope office again show nothing but man's vanity of desiring ultimate control.
Like Apostle Peter said in 1 Peter 2:9, those in Christ represent a "chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;" and that means the Church body, not a clergy system over the believer like the old covenant Levitical priesthood, which priesthood is dead now with that old covenant.
Jesus also warned against doing repetitious prayer, which the Roman Church wrongly promotes using prayer beads like the Buddhists use with their repetitious prayer beads and prayer wheels and such, which is pagan superstition. Jesus showed us how to pray in Luke 11, and it is to be in reverence and in simplicity as He showed there, and that is how our Heavenly Father will hear our prayers, for He looks at the heart, and not how many Hail Marys and Our Fathers you can pray in a half-hour.
Lot of folks I have noticed over the years are totally ignorant of the early Christian Church in Great Britain at a time when Rome was still pagan and did not allow Christian worship, and there was no physical Christian Church in Rome then. The earliest origins of the Christian Church in Europe was the British Culdee church around the 1st century A.D. at Glastonbury.
How strange then it is, that the Roman Church history began much later, yet somehow the Catholic 'system' by man usurped the early historical Christian Church in Great Britain that already existed before, and without any need of a "bishop of bishops" (pope).
And then the British Church had to wait until the 16th century to start getting back the original authority it had under the Culdee British kings before the Roman Church ever existed. Apostle Paul points to Rufus Pudens, Claudia, and Linus in 2 Timothy 4:21 which the Catholic Church lies about saying Pudens was a saint in early Rome (and not anything to back it up).
But early secular writings refer to Claudia, and Pudens.
Pudens was a Roman assigned duty to early Britain. He married Claudia, and their son was Linus. Of course the Catholic Church disputes all this, because it conflicts with their fabricated 'system' of how they like to falsely claim the early Church began in Rome, when the first Christian Church established in Europe was actually in the British Isles.
I notice in that Wikipedia quotes about Claudia it omits Roman historians that wrote about the Palatium Britannicum (British Palace) that the pagan Romans built for the Christian British king and his family they captured from early Briton. "Claudia Rufina was a woman of British descent who lived in Rome c. 90 AD and was known to the poet Martial. Martial refers to her in Epigrams XI:53, describing her as "caeruleis [...] Britannis edita" ("sprung from the blue Britons", presumably in reference to the British custom of painting themselves with woad). He praises her for her beauty, education and fertility.
Claudia is probably identical with the "Claudia Peregrina" ("Claudia the Foreigner") whose marriage to his friend Aulus Pudens, an Umbrian centurion to whom several of his poems are addressed, Martial describes in Epigrams IV:13. She may also be the Claudia whose height Martial compares to the Palatine colossus, a gigantic statue that once stood near the Palatine Hill (Epigrams VIII:60)."
