God's covenanted people were to observe a festival called the Passover. The first celebration was held on the night prior to the Israelites and a vast mixed company departing Egypt, being released from bondage under Pharoah's hand. A sacrificial lamb was slaughtered and it's blood was spread on the doorpost of the resident and it redeemed the life of the firstborn in the household. This forshadowed a greater offering, Jesus shed blood which would redeem all mankind who accepts the ransom.

Jesus and his apostles attended the Passover meal on Nisan 14 of the year 33CE and Jesus gave unleavened bread and wine to represent his flesh and blood that were soon to be given in their behalf, and made a new covenant with them. He became the Passover for his followers 1 Cor 5:7. He issued the command to them to: (Luke 22:19) . . .Keep doing this in remembrance of me.”

In obedience to Jesus' command, Christians around the world gather every Nisan 14 to remember the greatest act of love in history.
