The disappearing members

Do you ever get to know some members and then suddenly they disappear? This has happened to me several times now.

The last one to disappear is @pandaflower She was active daily, especially in the Happy Threads. Also in Current Events.

Looking at her last post, I thought maybe she got a ban seeing her last post?

Your staff now, you can find out more easily than any of us.

But being on forums for so long people coming and going is just a thing you accept unfortunately. I take off for a few months and come back now and again.

But its only a couple of weeks.

In forums, when a member is obviously very active and then suddenly nothing, it is mostly because of a ban.

Other, more rare explanations - they lost their password/email (for example some phone/PC damage), internet connection or simply some life events (accidents, death, moving, family issues...).

Some people can be so fed up with provocateurs, trolls or the constant enmity, personal attacks and mocking that they simply stop logging in. But this is rather slower process of leaving, people try the "ignore" feature first, they stop answering some endless conversations etc. But the final decision "it is not worth it" can still happen from day to day.

Sometimes they pass away my friend .
sometimes they are banned
Our friend amadeus rarely comes anymore . I thought he too had passed away
but all of a sudden he made a brief appearance .
Sadly i bet many wish i would dissappear . But no worries i weep not for me only for them .

One day in the blink of an eye
The sheep will seem to dissapear in an instant , BUT NO WORRIES , WE IN A FAR BETTER PLACE FOREVER WITH JESUS on that day .

Wanna hear a true story my friend .
I know all about that ignore button . THOUGH i myself have never once used it against anyone .
But to say its not often and quickly used against me , well that would be a lie .
I might not be the fastest gun in the west , but i sure seem to be the fastest one put on ignore .
But no worries . Dont you weep for me . I dont . I weep for them . my desire was and is ONLY GOOD for this people
even those who hate me most . Now to the trenches one and to the trenches all .

I can’t find him on a search of the members but the only reason I thought it was only admin and Moderators is that once I stepped down all the lines that I use to see through threads , members ect that had been banned or had asked for their accounts to be deleted, all disappeared. All I see now are the names , even though I know they are no longer here x

That has nothing to do with what is being discussed here , I can vouch for the integrity of admin and moderators here, we have rules and guidelines here and if members do not honour them then they have to face the consequences.

I had asked under my old user name if they could ban me, but that line did not appear, but I still could not sign onto it. Then I was looking for the same with Johann (who was supposedly banned) but his name is just deleted or something like that. Its hard to tell.

Now over at christian forums they had this cool feature way back (like 20 years ago) where there was this little lightbulb located at the top of your posts and went that went black that meant that poster was in a "time out" (so to speak). Which was a great feature if they didnt respond, or you havent seen them for awhile you wouldnt really worry about them, because you knew they were being corrected for breaking some rule and you could pretty much count on seeing them again (us all knowing those rules and how long those "time outs" would last). Well, they ditched that for some reason, but then alot of the members began to distrust some things, and began running between themselves showing what was going on in the backround, because even that used to be something that was transparent. I think I recall a forum that was set up like a court, where a member could air their greivance openly on a strike or a warning or some thing. But at that time that forum was crazy busy, not just showing "all members" (as if currently active) but the forum was highly active (and had no need of folks who seem as though they are pretty much there to prop up some ressemblance of activity)

I liked that time out lightbulb, because I look now and I know more of them are banned, and not dead because I know them (they are alive) but are showing as active members. But I always wondered what the benfit of that is? Unless that holds a better resale value for a forum owner (showing a forum full of ative members when they are not). That crossed my mind that that could be the case. Not sure though.
