I know lots of people who believe that Jesus is their lord and saviour. I very much doubt that they would believe that the devil exists in the present day and would be on an obscure internet forum trying to persuade Christians to not listen to Mathias while posing as a middle aged man from Cheshire.

You’re tripping.

***

@Riven do you remember whether or not Jesus and the apostles believed God and the devil exist? Read what they say. Believe them. Believe what they believe.

I've stood in the rain at the weekend watching my children being really bad at football.

I can't see Satan doing that.

Stand by for a counter argument from Mathias:)

My counter argument is simple: Believe Jesus and the apostles.

My wife has a message for you Mathias.

She says "He needs to get out more."

Please tell her thank you for me, and that I’ve traveled extensively.

Then tell her, if you haven’t already, that I teach, preach and practice the teaching and practice of Jesus and the apostles.

You don't care about Riven.

If you did you would be advising him to see a health care professional, not steering him towards another useless bunch of Christians who won't help with his mental health issues.

I care that he gets the help he needs because I'm a 21st century thinker and not a pray and God will sort it out nutcase.

Does your wife read the Bible? Does she know that Jesus is the great physician?

I mentioned Takashi in a conversation with a man. The man perked right up and told me that he loved Kashi! (He was eating Kashi while we were having our conversation.)

Takashi Nagai has nothing to do with Kashi food products but a love for Kashi food products led to a man being introduced to Takashi Nagai and his message.

Opportunity knocked on my door. Why did I talk to the man about Takashi instead of about Jesus?

I put one foot in front of the other. The first step wasn’t my last step. Kashi led to Takashi led to Jesus.

“… [Takashi Nagai] was remarkable in promoting the Sermon on the Mount as the practical charter for world peace.”

(Paul Glynn, A Song for Nagasaki, p. 212)

The unbeliever doesn’t teach you what Takashi Nagai saw and understood Jesus is teaching you @Riven.

The devil isn’t interested in world peace; Jesus is.

Listen to the agnostic. If what he says resonates with you, follow him. His is the way that leads to death.

Listen to Jesus. If what he says resonates with you, follow him. His is the way that leads to life.

Do you really think I don’t care? I wouldn’t tell you this if I didn’t. The devil knows it.

You don't care about Riven.

I’ve written publicly and directly to him all day long. You haven’t written publicly and directly to him even once today.

I’ve prayed for him. You can’t.

I’ve prayed for you, for your wife, for your children. You can’t.

There’s no need to mention what you’ve done to me. The spirit of Jesus told me a long time ago in scripture what you would do to me.

What you’ve done for me is strengthened my faith; and I thank you for that.

For 28 years. No clinical diagnosis, but I know it's there.

I know. It isn't that I don't appreciate what I have. I just wish things had gone differently. Sometimes it feels like I'm stuck in this dark pit that I can't get out of. Eventually you just stop trying to claw your way out.

Thanks, Debbie. I sometimes listen to the psalms when drifting off to sleep.

Riven I'm sorry you are suffering from depression. Just curious, have you talked to a doctor about it? If so, what happened?

If you are depressed because of your past, remember the Bible says "forgetting the things that are behind, and pressing forward to the high mark of the calling of God"....to me that means letting go of the past, don't dwell there in your thoughts. Live in the present and enjoy your life from now on, trusting the Lord.

Maybe you need to get a change of scenery? Sometimes that helps the brain to feel better.

@Riven do you think “reasonable people who have faith” believe the devil exists? Have you asked them? If you haven’t, you should. My advice is go to the “Christians Only” forums and engage them in conversation on the matter. The unbeliever wants me to look at it. Do me a favor: look at it for me and let me know what you find out.

I believe the devil exists. I know a person at another forum who got deeply involved with the occult. He's now a Christian and warns people against delving into the occult. He doesn't even like to talk about it as it's so dangerous, what can happen.

I know there's power in the name of Jesus, and have had experiences when that name saved me. Once was when I was approached by a mugger with a weapon held at my ribs. From deep within me "in the name of Jesus!" came out...it was a tremendously forceful voice. The mugger's jaw dropped and he apologized to me, before fleeing.

Another time my mother had a sawed off shotgun held to her ribs as she was a cashier at a restaurant. She sensed he would kill her so she grabbed the gun and held it downwards while yelling "Jesus is Lord!" She said the robber actually turned white (he was black). He fled. The customers were all under their tables.

You’re so quiet @Riven. What is going on in your mind right now?

Matthias I don't know but maybe everyone is just piling too much onto @Riven right now? Especially with you and @Mancunian now going at each other.

I ask both of you to be careful about the personal attacks. I have already PMed @Mancunian about doing that. Discussion is ok but not the attacks.

I have no interest in nor intention of attacking @Mancunian, and I don’t have any complaint whatsoever about him attacking me. That’s an important difference between a follower of Jesus and an atheist. I want to model that difference for my readers.

As for @Riven. I’m a pastor; trained and experienced in dealing with men and women in his situation. We’ve had a good conversation about the change in our relationship and what has caused it.

If he tells me that he doesn’t want me to speak to him anymore, I won’t. You have my word on it. Until he does, I’m going to continue to direct him to Jesus and encourage him to have conversations with Christians in the “Christians Only” forums. He’s in trouble posting in the non-Christian forums. It’s not spiritually safe for him to be here at this time.

I appreciate your frankness.

Those weren’t hollow words @Mancunian. I wanted and needed you to be frank with me. Thank you for your honesty. It’s been a blessing to me.

A moderator has said that it’s enough. I‘ll take the blame for getting you into that jam, which I did, by encouraging you to be frank with me.

You said in post #989 that you weren’t ever going to reply to me. I won’t hold you to it but it might be best if you don’t reply to me. I know where you stand. You’ve made yourself clear. Do what you think is best.

Just one more thing. You said that you care about @Riven. I believe that you do. I didn’t make that clear in my post #1010 to you. I was remiss in not doing so.

Discussions are ok. It was just getting a little heated there it seemed.

I do hope @Mancunian will eventually realize our faith in Jesus Christ isn't about religion. But about a relationship with God through forgiveness of our sins. And that we can have peace with God in our hearts and minds through that relationship.

Sometimes it's better to be quiet and let others speak. I'm enjoying a nice cup of coffee right now. coffee:

I’m not your mother, but isn’t that going to keep you up past your bedtime?

Speaking of which, it’s my bedtime. Good night.
