Hello @Dave L,

This does not answer my question (#78)

You obviously think the law saves. Or you would not refer to Chorazin and Bethsaida as an example for salvation. Their repentance, and Jerusalem's repentance would do nothing more than ward of looming judgement by the Romans.

Hello @Dave L,

You need to actually read what is written: for the examples I gave were to show that God knows the secrets of men's hearts, and knows how one who had not heard the gospel message would respond had they done so.

Please stop making unfounded accusations.

Ahhhhh, so what you really want is a Savior that makes murder, theft, lying, child rape, porn watching, etc. "non-punishable offenses"...

Nothing like those of us who strive against sin by God's grace getting a lecture about works from people who claim to be "more than conquerors" but get their butts kicked decidedly everytime the devil dangles a little temptation before them. LOL

Spoken like a religious person who thinks they no longer sin in the flesh. It is just the other guy that does.

Rom 3:20-23 ---God's Righteousness Through Faith
20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,
22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, """to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference""";
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
NKJV

Yes, to ALL, even those that sin. If not then the word ALL is wrong.

1Jo 3:5, And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
1Jo 3:6, Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
1Jo 3:7, Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1Jo 3:8, He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
1Jo 3:9, Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.

While this may be using hyperbole, I think it is clear that the message of this passage is that the one who is born again will have a radical transformation of character and behaviour. They have changed their direction, form walking towards sin, death, and hell, to walking towards righteousness, life, and heaven.

Pro 4:18, But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

If a person could be justified by his/her works then they do not need Jesus' work on the cross and that takes away the glory of God's Son, Jesus Christ.
The only people trying to be justified by their "works" are the Antinomianists that have "worked" out a system whereby they may by partial surrender to God and dead faith obtain from God that which only full surrender and living faith may obtain: eternal life.

When you make a full surrender to Christ and become a true child of the King, then you'll discover "there's power in the blood" available to those who cry out to God for help in the hour of temptation.

Until then, you'll keep on fooling yourself that you are "more than a conqueror" while continuing to get that Beelzebub beatdown that you're so accustomed to.

Hi Phoneman,

This is what drives me. So many Christians are so used to that beatdown, they don't believe they can be free. I was that way far too long! Unlearned and unbelieving. Yes I believed in Jesus, but not in His will to perform in me.

Without knowing Him, how do we trust Him? Without trusting Him, when do we surrender - really - to Him? Without that kind of trust? I don't think we do.

Yes, we need to assert our royal priveledge, for the good of all around us. We are children of God. Freed from sin. Free to do righteousness.\

I always suggest . . . the next temptation, simply don't do it. Just don't give in. Tell yourself it's just this once. Distract yourself, best with the Word, or Scriptural music, something like that, meditate on God. Just don't commit that sin. You will find that you don't have to.

Then, repeat.

Much love!

Hi justbyfaith,

What if it weren't actually hyperbole? What if the words were meant to be taken at face value?

Ephesians 4:23-24
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

The new man, created in God's likeness, in righteousness and true holiness. No condemnation. Like Paul wrote, It is no longer I that sin, but the sin that lives in me.

I agree completely, a radical transformation!

Much love!

I'm not sure that that sits with me very well (even if it does turn out to be a valid observation)...

It amounts to "I can sin but it isn't really me sinning, so I am not responsible...I can blame it on the fact that I am a sinner."

I find that this is reminiscent of what God said had just condemnation in Romans 3:5-8.

PRAISE GOD for those who appreciate the truth!

When will the church learn that “sin shall not have dominion over you”? Let’s be honest - WE ALL LOVE THE PLEASURE OF SIN ELSE TEMPTATION TO INDULGE IT WOULD NOT BE SO HARD TO RESIST. Men probably love sexual gratification most of all, and it’s never more than just a few clicks on our smartphone away.

But most “Christians” refuse to accept the solid Biblical axiom that, “It’s not a question of SKILL, but of WILL.”

They refuse to make total surrender of their WILL to Christ, by doing so cut themselves off from the power in His blood, and finally point to their deficiency as an excuse to continue in disobedience to Him, not knowing that obedience is the evidenced of a converted heart to Christ.

They would rather trade their birthright which was purchased at so great a price on Calvary for a few morsels in a bowl. whether it be lentils, porn, money, pride, whatever.

I find this to be a common objection, however, the Apostle, not me, states, It is no longer I that sin, but the sin that lives in me."

With that said, keep in mind Galatians 5, if we walk in the Spirit, we will not do the lusts of the flesh. So the way to prevent sin in our lives is to be engaged in righteousness.

If "I" am "the sinner", then how do "I" stop? "I'm a sinner." If that's me. But Paul says it's not. So how do I stop sinning? By recognizing that sin lives in me, that is, in my flesh. I then, from a position of power, deny sin access to my members. My hands. My ears. My mouth. So on.

I keep my mouth busy imparting grace, so I'm not sinning with my mouth.

It was the object back then. So shall we sin that grace may abound? Of course not!

The matter of me not being the one who commits the sin is for me a secondary issue. The primary issue here for me is, that's no longer me! i was a sinner, now I'm new, righteousn and holy. Therefore I no longer have to sin.

and thanks be to God for that!!

Much love!
